I am running a site with 1,000s of photos (JPEGs), and I finally decided that I want to lock out bandwidth thieves who are beginning to be a true plague to me.
I understand that I can use an Apache .htaccess file to actually do exactly this ("lock out all customers presenting a referer other than empty or from www.mysite.com").
But my provider is running Zeus webserver, which seems to support some functions of .htaccess, but not all. I know that .htaccess is working for me, because I did setup my own 404 error page. But my providers support staff are completely lost (pointing me to Apache resources on the Net).
The Zeus server documentation says that hotlinking can be stopped, but they do not provide a sample script on HOW it could be done.
Which is why I am asking you for help.
Many thanks in advance for any tips and/or pointers,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]!
I cannot answer for Zeus - I haven't worked with it before.
However, there are many threads [google.com] here about hotlinking, and you could try a simple example from one of them to see if it will work under Zeus.
Jim
thanks for your welcome and reply.
In fact I have been looking (and fiddling) around for quite a while, but I always get to the point where I say "I need to understand how ZEUS works". Google does not list too many (less than 650) results for 'zeus webserver htaccess', and none has done the trick so far.

The link from there to:
support.zeus.com/faq/zws/v3/entries/redirect.html
seems to suggest that Zeus has an htaccess module w/documentation included.
