I would like to know how best to make money on this webworld, it is tough business. I have wasted money on affiliate programs, and I don't seem to understand why I am not getting returns on my investments. I would like some contributions. I am not asking for your secrets but just the very basics, it is highly unlikely that I will understand your secrets. I haven't quite gotten to that level yet. Thanks

You need:

a) Lots of Content
b) Hundreds of inbounds Links
c) Tons of Traffic

I'm still working on it.

Ditto to Longen. Build a site and write tons of content. Information, reviews, etc. Solicit links (you'll get them if you write an authoritative site). Join free, reputable affiliate programs and add them (make sure they are relevant to your content). Add AdSense. Buy quality traffic if it is affordable (use AdWords if you can find cheap, relevant keywords). Your site will grow if you pay attention to it.

It takes work and time, but it will work. Just don't expect riches overnight.

You might as well look into community building (i.e. user generated content), which scales much better than self-generated articles (i.e. owner generated content). On the other hand, a lot of WW members report that communities do not convert (CTR-wise) as good as 'normal' content.

Phishing, click fraud, spyware, malware, scraping, credit card fraud, email scams and spam - the list goes on and on for these proven methods.

Jaco,

Don't give up on this.
As many people here will advice you; experiment, experiment and then do some experimenting again.
If it don't work, ditch it. If you got a hunch you are onto something, persist, don't stop.
If you think you have a good idea in the middle of the night, write it down right away or get out of bed and implement it.

I am one of the many folks who aint that clever.
So for me and a gazillion others it's just hard working, every day again. But a start of being clever is to make money with websites about topics you are a real expert in. Is that the case with you?

I don't think there is a "best" way. What works best depends a lot on your knowledge, skills, and inclinations.

Based on the number of people that have asked the general: 'How can I make more money?', I think some kind of "MAKE MONEY FAST!" scam would bring in a fair bit.

Yes i want to start a new site based on an advice my wife gave me, "Get a site that deals with what you do". So I have made up my mind to spend the time and do it

Except the competition in that space is fierce. The people trying to make money fast via selling the scam may now outnumber those trying to make money via buying into the scam.

I'm afraid that secret's already out.

Good luck with this!

My site is a topic I'm familiar with, and my site has been online for a while now. It's been a bit of work to promote my site, but the rewards are certainly well worth it!

Persevere with your chosen topic, and keep reading this forum for good advice.

Adsense can work very well, so it's worth the time and effort. Mainly this is in optimising pages for how the ads work best for you.

I run both adsense and fastclick. To show you the difference between the two, I always regard fastclick as the bank charges for the google cheque! Meaning that adsense is the BIG earner, and fastclick is a usefull also-ran.

If the OP has "wasted" money on affiliate programs then, IMHO, he has already been the victim of a scam. Honest affiliate programs do NOT charge you to become an affiliate.

My best advice is not to give up.

I could have given up so many times but never did. I am so glad that I didn't ;) These days I can go where I want, eat what I want and do what I want. Maybe you could call it absolute freedom.

You will also have to work harder and smarter than your competition. Just keep at it - good times will be just around the corner :)

"Get a site that deals with what you do"

i would agree with this, especially if it is your first real content site you will find writing the content a lot easier (and a lot faster).

work harder and smarter than your competition

seconded

it can be easy to overlook the competition (especially if you seem to be dominating the SERPS for your niche), keep on your toes :o)

good luck!
