Hi

I have the impression that today totally untargeted. Yesterday everything was allright, today its a mess. I havenīt changed the content but now I get total untargeted ads, just 1 ad at the leaderboard and dutch language ads on german website content.

Welcome to WW, 1stTrade.

Although I haven't experienced the same thing myself, you may find that it has something to do with advertisers budgets running out at the end of the month. Many publishers have commented on reduced revenues toward the end of the month, so your PSA's may be just another manifestation of that, especially if you haven't modified the pages in any way.

It's interesting. I have not experienced the same effect, and I would not characterize my site as narrowly focused on a single topic either. I'm curious if sites who experience the effect are more focused (it would seem to logically follow).

Actually, there is something odd about Adsense earnings today. On more than one site. For me it's been a change in the right direction though.

I have had one page that would not stop showing PSA's. It was a content rich page but the content was all over the place. I changed the title, added a keyword, and 3 minutes later here come the bot and 3 more minutes later, perfectly targeted ads.

From the Optimization Tips page:

6. Place AdSense ads on text-rich pages.

Add AdSense ad code to pages on your site that predominantly contain text. Only text is used to determine a page's content. Therefore, although Google's targeting technology is optimized to target ads to pages with frequently updated content, image-heavy pages or pages with dynamic media such as Macromedia Flash ™ may not return relevant ads.

It shouldn't matter that the content was all over the place. In fact, it would seem that should encourage a wide variety of ads.

With all of the postings lately about targeting, there's definitely something going on that we don't know about.

I've got some pretty off-target ads showing up but they look like the higher payout ads within a slightly general targeted group of keywords.

One click on a five dollar ad is worth a lot more than two clicks on a dollar ad. So maybe Google is targeting ads within more general categories for top payout.

How well this might work for everyone remains to be seen, but it seems to me that once someone clicks on an ad, they've already decided they're interested so they arrive at the advertisers site as a targeted visitor worth the money the advertiser is paying.

It was a page on a specific topic, but the words were very general words. I was suprised that it was PSA's, but I found by even tweaking little things in the content, many changes could happen.

Studying the off-target ads on my site in greater detail, I'm now pretty convinced the reason for the off-targeted ads is that more precisely targeted ads just aren't available at the moment so Google is serving the next best available ads.
