I'm so excited. I made $182 in August. This is a record breaking amount for me.
Although I'm with adsense for 9 month, I used to make around $100 a month. Untill I came to this forum. I would like to thank each and everyone for your great support. Your posts are full of jewels in the forum of tips and advices. You generously help out people like me.
I'll keep coming here, I even made this forum one of my home pages.

Been reading this forum for about 3 months and thought that my site had maxed out at just over $100.00 a month. Took some of the great advice given here, and actually took googles own advice from their website and made over $300.00 in August.
Been with adsense for almost a year. It is a lot of hard work and the first few months made only pennies. The money comes in when you work for it. The more time I have devoted to my site, the more money I have made.
My goal was to make enough money to cover hosting fees. Did that after 2 months. Then to make enough to make my car payment. Did that after 7 months. Now it is to make enough to make my house payment. Hope to do that by end of year.
Thanks to everyone for their advice.

What tips did you find most useful?

- permanent redirect of domain.com to www.domain.com
- image beside adsense banner
- adsense at bottom of articles, not top

plus one tip of my own: I placed my adsense banner at top of page so that not much else is showing, until users scroll down.

Don't those two suggestions contradict each other?

I think the gist about that advice is to place the ads where people will notice them. Ok, that's obvious, but apparently not obvious enough for there to be a full-proof successful layout strategy. Yes, I'm aware of the Google heat map, but I've read comments from people that have shown results placing ads in different places than the hot areas.

In the end it's probably best to take Google's advice as written in their heat map page.

While this heat map is useful as a positioning guideline, we strongly recommend putting your users first when deciding on ad placement.

An image of what? What for?

An image of what? What for?

Many people put general images of what ever they're websites are about. In general the ads should be related to the picture so people click on an ad thinking its something to do with the picture.

I kind of use the image to create a sort of a hot map spot, to attract eye attention to the area.

edit:
I'm sorry if my post about ad placement was confudsing. I was talking 2 diferent placement in 2 different page types. In one page type (topics in my case) I use banner at bottom, and in other (index and other pages) I use banner at top.

I also forgot to mention the improvement section targetting made for me. It helped much in serving relevant ads more efficiently, and increased CTR dramatically.
