...and I like that, implies AdSense is working from Google's point of view, and is here to stay.
If it was not working, then no way would he have mentioned it!
I like his comment that "You can't do a good job of search unless what you're looking for is out there"--implying that AdSense is good for Google because it encourages the development of content on a wide variety of topics.
Topics that are aligned with lucrative industries, yes. Content that is vital but not ecommerce-friendly gets the shaft, relatively speaking, and in the long term this could skew the internet ever more toward becoming a vapid commercial no-man's-land. If they're not careful. That's my fear, anyway.
Google AdSense is a great way to reward topic-enthusiast site-builders and an extra incentive for them to keep raising the bar for their own site and keep investing effort into it instead of eventually leaving a half-finished (but potentially excellent) site to join the wash of web-flotsam.
