Ok,I know this sounds weird. I've submitted the question to Google, and will wait the 2 or 3 days it takes them to get back to me with a canned response. In the meantime, I figured I'd ask you guys.

I'm developing a new website. I'm going to have a couple of downloadable pop up blockers and security script. I'll also have a news feed, and I want some Adsense ads.

I've placed an adsense script in this page..

www.example.com (or www.example.com/index.html)

but as you can see, the ads are not relevent. I made an *exact* copy of that file, and put it here.

www.example.com/index2.html.

As you can see, these ads ARE relevent. So my question is, why am I not getting relevent ads in the first page?

I've tried everything. Even if I just put the text form the page and the ad, with NOTHING else, I still odn't get relevent ads. It seems as if Google has somehow placed a filter on the root domain to keep from allowing relevent ads. But the site is still under construction, and has NEVER had relevent ads on it.

Anyone have any clues?

a) Welcome to WebmasterWorld
b) please take your domain out re the WW TOS
c) wait a few days and your ads should be refreshed

Opps, doesn't seem like I'm able to edit.

Also, the adsense ads I've had on the main page have been there for nearly a week now, and no change.

Also, if I use the google adsense sandbox tool over at #*$!, I get similar results. One page has relevent ads, one page doesnt.

That is very strange.

I see what you are saying, and I have no clue why that could be happening.

Odd to say the least.

Afraid I cannot help with a solution but I just thought I would mention that I have a similar problem. However, the difference is that my index page shows no ads at all. The rest of the site is no problem, ads a relevant and I earn revenue from clicks but no matter what I do on the index page it only ever shows my default ads and it has been like it for months.

The other thing that is slightly baffling is that I have another related site using the same layout and file structure etc and the index page on that site is fine.

Something new I discovered regarding this today.

If I go to [myexample.com...] , I do not get relevent ads, as I already explained.

However, if I go to [myexample.com...] , I DO get relevent ads.

So it would seem that for some reason the default domain root, with the www included has been blocked form receiving relevent ads.

Now I wondering if the previous owner of this domain was somehow banned or something. I can't think of any other reason this would happen.

I received a ltter from Google saying that it might take a week or so for my content to be fully indexed, but I think that's BS, becuase Adsense doesn't depend on the googlebot to serve up relevent ads.

Anyone have any clue?

I just tried looking at my affected site using just http://example.com and it was exactly the same as the www version. It has been like this for a long time now.

Hi sxvhrs –

I think I know what might be happening… Google crawlers consider URLs such as www.myexample.com and myexample.com to be different URLs, so they index each of the pages at different times. This happens even when the content is exactly the same.

Because of the timing difference, you may see different Google ads appearing on each of your sites, or one of your sites might take longer to display relevant ads than the other.

Hope that explains!

Yup, it's just that the crawler's not been back to crawl the page yet. Either wait for that or else redirect requests for index.html to your new home page.

My home page has not been displaying relevant ads for well over two weeks now, to about 95% of visitors (including myself). On rare occasions it will display one, sometimes two ads, then they're gone again on the next page view.

When I look at http://www.example.com/ no ads.

When I look at http://www.example.com/page/1 ads are appearing fine. This URL contains exactly the same content as the homepage. (You get it if you click Next Page from the homepage, and then click Previous Page.)

it is exactly what adsense advisor said. They are technically different pages, and will host different ads depending on when they are crawled and filled out.

Keep an eye on your logs and see. But it is very likely that you always hit one copy of the page thus encouraging adsense bot to visit and update the ads. The other one you probably didn't hit at all until you stumbled upon it, so it will take some time. It would be very unusual for single person to use alternate means to access the same page.

You might want to consider some of the mod_rewrite suggestions and such and other tips to keep you from having duplicate pages on your site. They have other benefits besides just keeping adsense in line. I know I learned a lot on those issues from other people here and it helped straighten me out.

My problem seems to be partially resolved, after months of not seeing any ads at all on the index page of my site.

I changed the ad from a 120x600 to be a 120x240 and although the ads are now only partially relevant to my site content, at least they are shwing ads.

Incidently, I added a 300x250 block at the same time lower down the page and guess what - no ads.

I am wodering now if it has something to do with ad inventory. If G cannot fill a 120x600 then maybe they won't show ads at all in some situations.
