This change has sneaked in... at first only a small percentage of the ads by google pages didn't display the url's - now it seems to be all of them (or almost).

PLEASE GOOGLE - put them back - I use Linux 50% of the time and don't want to install yet another utility on my test box. I want to be able to block the scrapers and competitors as I see them...

Anyone else finding the lack of a url very inconvenient?

If you move the mouse over the ad you'll see it in the status bar. "go to example.com"

I know this is going to sound like a stupid question, but how do you know a site is a scraper site without clicking the ad?

sigh... we just discussed this...

If you view the ad layouts it clearly shows which ads do and don't show URLs.
[google.com...]

Leaderboards don't show URLs, skyscrapers and big boxes do.

Click on the "Ads by Google" link and it will USUALLY show you the links, might have to click it a couple of times to get the right page as Google seems to be rotating a few pages there.

Now go install the AdSense Preview tool like you should've in the first place.

Gethan sure am finding it a pain. Use leaderboards so URL's not listed and to filter now is almost imp[ossible. See others are saying use the preview tool but I want to check out specific ads on my site. Having to boot IE and retyping url is a waste of my time. Google bring back the tool that we were using, and easy way to check out ads that are appearing on a site.

Also, as some of you may have seen mentioned in another recent thread, when creating filters it’s important to make sure you are using the destination URL of the ad you want to block. This can be different from the URL displayed in the ad or the URL of the final page you end up on when you click on an ad.

You might already know this, but if you don’t want to use the AdSense preview tool, you can also find the destination URL of your ads by following the steps under ‘View the link Properties’ on the following site:

[google.com ]

Thanks for all the constructive responses - to reiterate - this is something that was working just fine for me and many others - as it was. Something was changed and it is now a PITA.

Bill: "Now go install the AdSense Preview tool like you should've in the first place."

Hmm - like I said - I don't want more applications on my test system and shouldn't have to install it. Yes - it was discussed as _part_ of another thread - it deserves it's own thread so I created one.

"USUALLY show you the links"

It's getting less usual - took 7 attempts this morning.

ASA: Thanks for the reply - but I use firefox and linux mostly and don't want to fire up a another application or machine in order to block an ad that I can already see - spending time to find these ads adds up... see the problem?

Dutch-Dude: "If you move the mouse over the ad you'll see it in the status bar. "go to example.com" "

In IE only ;)

Visi: Thanks for answering the question.

Google: Please just put it back the way it was... or at least put the functionality that was there one click away... (could be in a hidden div and add a show urls link)

ASA: Just re-read your reply - and then the page...

# Right-click on the ad title and select either Copy Shortcut (IE) or Copy Link Location (Netscape).

Thanks - just what I need.

FWIW, the "showing of URLs" was misleading as the advertiser could indicate one URL in the "show" part and link to another in the link.

The only reliable way was to right click even before the change.

Which brings up the other frequently asked request - that competitive ad filters should apply to the display AND the actual URL...

When you want to ban major 'shopping-comparison-auction-scraper-site.com' which uses 'major-affiliate-network.com' - filtering the 'major-affiliate-network.com' address means that all other programs using that network will be filtered.

In IE only

I don't see it in safari but it works fine in firefox here .

If you do not see it in firefox you may have disabled (some parts) of javascript. Check your firefox settings under "content". I thought it does not work in firefox before myself :) I then discovered it was because i disallowed javascript in firefox to change the statusbar.
