The owner of these sites is using scaped portions of my data on to attract advertisers. Then he is displaying different article and adsense instead.
My page count on Google used to be 90,000. Now, when I search for my website's name I see 180,000 and my Google search result rank is Falling and Falling and Falling. The scapper website are actually ranking higher than my website.
How do I stop this?
I only get 10% of the traffic I used to get before the May "Bourbon" update.

Google search officially sucks now. I will not use their search again if i can help it, and i hope others do the same. Google search has gone the way of alta vista....adios bu bye.

Google search offically sucks nowand msn search is improving every day.
The best thing i like about msn is that scraper are ( maybe ) not focusing on msn. I get great search results these days from msn. and the results rotate fast. It seems that nobody stays on top on msn for long.

I'd use Yahoo or MSN but I can't stand the interface. It feels like they're trying to squeeze every last penny out of a searcher, and that turns me off.
Their pages are full of advertisements and other trash I couldn't care less about, and my newer system actually begins to act up and the mouse pointer lags when I move it around on some of them. I assume they've got tons of Javascript or flash that causes this.
If Yahoo and MSN would adopt a similar search page (maybe Yah.com or some other shortened form of their name if they refuse to get rid of all the trash) I'd be tempted to use them.
Also, trying to figure out what's a paid listing and what is organic can be difficult with them. I guess this doesn't matter to your non-webmaster searcher, but it does to me.

And you people really report scraper sites to Google? I didn't think Google had any policy against them.
There are many too many scraper sites for me to worry about them. I'm in favor of turning in sites that break AdSense rules - I've said before I think everyone should try to turn in 5 per week. But I don't even bother with scraper sites. I'm not sure they are breaking any rules, and even if they are, there are too many to tackle.
Our site was started in 2002. Because of the scraper site SEO poisoning other similar sites I started 4 - 5 months ago are already outranking it in SEO results for it's name and related keywords.
I should have known something like this could happen, for 1 - 2 months, abusive spiders from funny addresses were gobling Abusive Gigabytes of our site.

I think his comments are generally very helpful and the posts indicate he's a stand up guy. I assume you, like we, were *seriously* damaged in updates but I think you are holding the wrong party responsible for the problems that come from scraper and copycat sites - it's a still a very wild west out there.

Hmm... Interesting. Then you may not know about these URLs:
[search.yahoo.com...]
[search.msn.com...]
Go to those URLs, bookmark them, and search Yahoo and MSN without the bells and whistles. You now have no excuse for using Google. ;)

There's no room on my bookmark bar but I think I can make some space.
I bet most people don't know about these stripped-down versions.
If you join myweb 2.0 as well as Yahoo 360 you can then save web pages and "tag" them into categories. If you are socially connected with interesting people you can see what they are saving when you search. Really cool stuff. I've been using both since they came out.
MSN has a neat new algo that makes finer and more correct distinctions than Google on some searches.
As far as scraper site are concerned, if they are scraping substantial portions of your web page (like your whole damn page), then you can file a DMCA complaint with their web host, registrar, and all the major search engines.
If they are cloaking your content then you can file a spam report.
I sympathize with your plight as my entire pages are ripped off all the time (not by scrapers, though). Catching content thieves is part of the busines nowadays, just like catching shoplifters at a brick and mortar. It's a cost of doing business. At a certain point you have to stop kicking the door everytime it happens and start doing something about it.

Seems that this is also a good way for them to collect info to use in the ranking process.
I think it's just stupid arrogance: "We are the high-tech. What could do a bunch of weird punters?".
