Unrelevant Ads Gets Much Higher CTR

I don't get it!

I just added a few contents on my site last week. As I published it the first time, adsense ads targeting was not very bad. I had around 5% ctr. These last three days, the targeting was totally horrific! I haven't found a single keyword in my content that would trigger those bad-targeted ads.

When I checked my channel account for those ads, as I was expecting a ctr of 0%, I found that they're averaging 10-20% ctr!

I really don't get it. Now I don't know if I would try and fix the targetting of those ads or not.

Possibility: Google's SERP's send you visitors based upon Google's misinterpretation of your page. Google's mediabot has a similar misunderstanding of your page, and matches the ads to what it thinks the page is about. People arrive, see that the page isn't what they want - but, sure enough, the ads are.

I had some ads for "Shocking Ghost Footage, Very Freaking Scary" on my completely unrelated Health site. It did pretty well :)

P.S. it went away after a day or two

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Besides, there's not much you can do when it's not caused by your content. Adsese is automatic. Accept it.

If hyperkik's version is true, there is quite a potential in this for blackhat AdSense people.

Here is the recipe.

1) Build pages with good content.

2) Make Googlebot eat it.

3) When page is in the SERPs, people starting to find it, replace the page with some different content.

option: if you have a site on various subjects, just rotate your pages: Page1 (subject: widgets) replaces Page2 (subject: midgets), Page2 replaces Page3 (subject: gadgets) and so on.

4) Visitor doesn't find the relevant content, clicks on AdSense ad.

And you can't be blamed for doing nonsense pages.

What do you think of that?
