what do you guys know about the traffic generating sites like trafficswarm,nomorehits etc and can anyone update me on how google considers the traffic coming from these sites to one's website.

Those traffic exchange won't help your Adsense earning...highly not targeted, that's why.

our website recently purchased traffic - "targeted visitors" from a place called getcheaptraffic.com

it was a bit of a disaster. We bought 20k from u.s. and 15k from the uk, or something, paying $20 for the us traffic, and $40 for the uk traffic.

We were given the opportunity & selected 'business' 'webmasters', etc as the targeted categories.

the 'visitors' resembled a sort of attack. our index page was continually refreshed thousands of times by about 50 - 150 ip addresses from around the world.

Only the index page was seen. Nobody surfed into the site, and needless to say nobody bought anything.

Ok, we could have guessed this, but it was a test. Now we can confirm that this is a scam.

The worrying thing is that people probably buy this traffic & send it to affiliate / paying ad sites.

There have been a few cases reported where people using this sort of service have been kicked out. It's impossible to know if this was the cause, or one of the causes, but I'm sure Google doesn't want webmasters feeding AdSense this kind of traffic for obvious reasons.
