I had an interesting dream last night....

About a new option from AdSense!

I dreamed that I was working on a page with AdSense and there was a new code offered that you could paste anywhere on the page.

This code would cause keywords and keyword phrases WITHIN the text of articles in your pages to be "hot linked". When a reader clicks on the hot link, he/she is taken to a regular AdLinks page with ads about that keyword/phrase.

Wouldn't that be COOL and simple? That might open up a whole new webmaster customer base for AdSense. Webmasters who don't want obtrusive ad boxes showing on their site could choose this option.

What do you think? Pros? Cons?

Why do I do my best thinking when I'm not conscious? LOL

The name of this new product (in my dream) was:

"AdLinks Hot"

There is already a company that does this, burstnet? As a surfer I find them annoying as I don't know whether it is a link to content or just a ad.

I had a nightmare last night. I dreamed that there is already that kind of product and it called "AdLinks Hot".
I was looking at my site and was generating invalid clicks by mistake because couldn't figure out anymore what kind of links I have in my site.

Sweet dreams to you all

BTW
YesMom, I wish your dream come true.

IntelliTXT from Vibrant Media already offers something similar, but they automatically pick out keywords.

Your idea sounds more interesting but I doubt whether Google will ever launch such an ad model.

Vibrant Media must have been able to access your head while you were asleep. As a result they are now offering IntelliTxt.

Kontera - very similar idea - and you can use it on the same page as Google Adsense.

"Kontera Adlink"

I've applied and am waiting to see if I'm accepted onto it.

ROFL -- I guess so! I hadn't seen anything like this before... guess I don't surf enough. ;-)

Well, it *was* just a dream.

YesMom,
Why not you can send the idea to google itself.

Well, if it is not a good idea, I wouldn't want to request it.

Thought I'd ask here first... anyway, I imagine Google has definitely considered it, seeing as it is being done by others.

I don't think it's nightmare to anyone.

Advertisers may switch their ads on/off in this type of serving. Just like search/content selection of adwords. That would be only a subcategory option under "content".

Also, the underlined keywords aren't hot links themselves. The advertisement and link are within the DHTML box which appears when you mouse-over the specially underlined keyword. The chance of making accidental clicks on these are no more than regular adunits; actually less. Well, if someone still thinks s/he can accidentally click on these, they probably have some neurological problems and should consult a doctor immediately. They may also try throwing their ball-mouse to the waste basket.

sendtopaul,

How do you know Google allows this? Did you email them?

I read it somewhere Ann....

... and when you look at the "Adlink" ad they do - the one where the highlighted keyworda are underlined and when you mouse over and ad "appears" - this does not conflict with Adsense ToCs because the ads are never on the page to begin with until you mouse over the keyword.

I associate that type of advertising with spyware, since those are the type of links it ads to webpages.

Seems almost on the same level as "popup" advertising to me...I don't know why; there's just something "slimy" about it.

Thanks for the input as to pros and cons... certainly more voices for the "con" side of this.

Hey... it was only a dream!

I *am* thinking about trying out C*ntera on some pages where AdSense isn't working for me.... but not alongside AdSense. I don't want to risk an incorrect interpretation of the T&C.

But I'm just curious enough to see how many words on my pages will "light up". ;-)

i straight send an email to Google AdSense support about allowing me the option in my site. Their reply regarding IntelliTXT "Kontera Adlink" or any such advertising

"We do not allow text-based ads that either directly mimic or attempt to be associated with Google ads. To be more specific, we do not permit Google ads to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads. This would include all content-targeted ads as well as text-based ads."

So please be aware about putting such ad along with AdSense.

Yea, clicksor also has this. However this is very very annoying, and I think it's a horrible idea, and it would be too low for google to do this.

About kontera, used them too they are very bad. Not only that 200clicks = 10$ the problem is their ads are too too slow! They take at least 10 secs to load...off topic.

Back to "adlinks" I would say no.

Hmm...thanks for that - perhaos I'll just try Kontera ads on non-performing Google Adsense pages - and see what happens.
