I just came across an anonymizer application which was created by the U.S. Navy and is now maintained by eff. Let's take a hypothetical situation where you configure a bot to run through a proxy and the tor.eff anonymizer which goes to your web pages and clicks on your adsense ads at a 6% CTR. Will Google be able to validate these clicks.
Here's what I'm worried about. You could take the same situation above and if Google is able to recognize the clicks are invalid without knowing the original source couldn't a malicious individual/competitor get your site banned from Google using the same process?
But this forum consists of many people that earn good money for honest work they put in their website, and feel quite close to Google's AdSense program that supports their lifestyle.
so I think you should get ready to be attacked by some harsh comments XD

Google expects that a certain amount of surfers have the Google toolbar installed.
Google expects that a certain amound of surfers have cookies. So they can watch the history of this computer.
CTR is much changing at different ads, day time, weather conditions...
So Google would wonder that an ad usual having the double CTR as normal is at this site at 6%
So Google would wonder that an ad usual having the half CTR as normal is at this site at 6%
There are so many different statistics possible, every single able to give an alert.
so I think you should get ready to be attacked by some harsh comments XD
If You steal a newspaper from an automat, where You are expected to insert a coin, there is a chance to be cought.
If You do this every day, the chances grow to be cought.
The chances to make a living by cheating adsense is like You want to steal a newpaper every some minutes all day long, 7 days a week, 52 weeks per year.
So there is no chance is the long run.
So no harsh comments necessary.
It's simple much more complicate than to reach the UPS club with good content.
I think you are being a bit too harsh to the OP.
what he said was quite clear:

that's a VERY legitimate thing to worry about, I worry about that too..
The answer to the question is: yes, there is no way for Google to recognize easily who performed the click fraud.
This does not mean that Google cannot recognize the fraud.
This simply means that Google will detect the fraud VERY EASILY and terminate the account, regardless of who actually did the clicking.
Re the concern about attacks using this technique: all I can suggest is, don't make enemies.
Thank you again frox for not following the herd and bashing my comment, which many people do here. We're all in the same boat here, so let's help eachother out and make this the best channel on webmasterworld.
Regards.
Once again, I didn't say frox was the only one to make neutral or supportive comments.
When I stated many here seem to focus on the negative I meant webmasterworld as a whole.
Let's change this attitude and make the adsense forum the best channel on the site.
Good day!
It seems frox was the only one to read my whole post and get my point of view.
I objected because so far as I am concerned, I DID read your whole post and I DID get your point of view. Others did too. You need to turn down your own volume--there were some bashers, but there were also some neutral posts and some supportive ones. Try to be appreciative of the range of opinion. There will always be a range of opinion here.
That's what makes this a good "channel," and it was a good channel long before you joined. You won't make friends by jumping in and lecturing us on the kind of behavior you want to see....
And yes I too thought of some "evil" third parties that would want your site taken down. But as I recall, somewhere back was a post refering to some earlier situation where an account was disabled just for invalid clicks made by someone else then the publisher. So you don't even need such a program to cause serious trouble to some site owners. But fortunatly after some explanation from the publisher, and finding no connection with the invalid "clicker" by google's detectives the account was brought back. Of course the delay is not only irritating but also causes a serious lacks in the paycheck.
So yes there's no way of protecting yourself from such doings except not making enemies, so I guess what should be considered is
-If your site has a forum or a comments system, dont express to many personal opinions
-On other forums where you do express your personal opinions, dont keep the link to your site in the open, but if necessary pm to those by whom you want the site to be seen.
Hope I'm not just repeating what everyone else said XD
cheers

I luckily don't have forum sites that's worth putting adsense on.
Because if I did, I would be very uneasy with this phrase.
On one side, I think it's a reasonable and sound suggestion.
On the other hand, I would find it unacceptable to be obliged NOT to express too many personal opinions on my forum.
Think about it: a forum like www.webmasterworld.com has decided NOT to have advertising, to be free from "pressures" from its advertisers, and I should shut up for fear of my readers?
(oops, I just posted and URL, jenstar will modedit me)
