I received an e-mail back this afternoon from the AdSense crew. I know direct quotes are a no-no on here, but the gist of the note was that they appreciated me notifying them of the click. They then reminded me that clicking on my own ads for any reason is prohibited, since it could potentially inflate advertiser costs.
Anyway, I know it comes up from time to time about should you report an errant click or not, but it happened to me and I'm glad I contacted Google to report it.
Thats it. No booting talk anymore.
Surely clicking your own adds on the odd occasion wouldn't invoke a banning?
I see interesting adds on my own site and click on them, purely to access the information.
I can imagine that google can negate any income from your own IP address.
But unless you are clicking dozens of times a day, explicitly for the purpose of gaining income, then surely they have far more important things to do than monitor and ban over small intrangencies?
I can't believe that there are people just sitting around watching millions of stats flash on their screen just to grab the odd webmaster clicking on his adverts.
Even if it was a software program ie: "If hits from the members IP on adverts are more than 10 per day," it would be set far higher than 1 or 2 clicks.

I could be a case by case thing. But it is explicitly forbidden in the Adsense Terms and Conditions.

You may want to rethink that practice, since you agreed not to when you joined.
As mentioned above, the Adsense Preview tool can be used to check out sites that may show up on your page without costing the advertiser a click.

If you look at it from Google's point of view, they really have no way of knowing whether your click was explicitly for the purpose of gaining income or because you are genuinely interested in the ad.
I have a feeling that's why they spelled it out in the terms to say that clicking of your own ads is prohibited. That way they don't have to guess your intentions.
They were very nice and very polite, and told me about inflating advertisers costs and notified me about "preview tool". T
Then just this morning I accidentally clicked on my ad, again. Did the same thing, sent an email right away along with the log, asked them if they could disable my IP so clicks dont get counted. And since I'm using linux, and therefore dont run IE I encouraged them to "transit" preview tool to unix friendly platforms.
Again, very very polite answer, and they said they dont yet have a preview tool that is compatible with the Linux platform.
I'm not sure about you guys, but if I ever click on my ad again, I'll make sure I contact google, it wont cost you anything to do so, and you can prevent possible misunderstandings before they occur.
CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK >thud!<
Just kidding, those were all Kanoodle banners....
LOL
Hang on, arnt we getting overly paranoid here?I see interesting adds on my own site and click on them, purely to access the information
Here we go again.
Netchicken1, as a new member please take the advice of not cliking on your ads. If you take a day or two and sift through the AdSense forum posts over the last year, you will see countless members who have been banned. Many of us here are to the point where we are more strict on ourselves in how we use AdSense than what is required by TOS.
The Adsense Terms are clear; No clicking on your own ads. Whether you find an ad interesting or not, if you click on your own ads, you will eventually be booted.
Good luck.
Why bother admonishing people not to click their own ads?
We all read the same terms and conditions and those that want to ignore them are just exhibiting signs of Darwinisn in action and starting their own AdSense extinction event leaving more for the rest of us. I'm starting to think it's best to just let nature <NATURE!> takes it's course as there are already tons of threads to read saying "DONT CLICK THE ADS!" and many more claiming they were banned when they did click them.
Those that want to short cut the learning process can let NATURE, yes NATURE!, take it's course!
Survival of the fittest :)
