Drop in earnings since May 20th

Hi all,

I know there are a few posts about ppl complaining etc about drops in earnings but I was more looking for people who have experienced drops in earnings advice so that I can try and rectify the current downturn in earnings I am experiencing.

Basically on May 20th I noticed a drop in average earnings by about 40% with May 16th and 17th being my most earning days yet to date at a couple of hundred dollars/day.

I have been trying to think of possibilities and reasons for this as I have analysed my stats and seen that my impressions and CTR are roughly the same but the massive change is the drop in eCPM. My site has been online since around October and there has been a noticable increase in earnings until May 20th when things dropped.

Could this be explained by Smart Pricing or just a general drop in Advertisers and click price in the sector I am in?

Has anyone experienced sudden drops in the past and do things go back up or is this a long term dip in earnings?

I am experiencing the same thing and from the same time frame. I have only been with Adsense since March, so I don't know what to expect for the future...will the earnings rebound? Did Google make changes that are reflecting these new earning levels? Are large daily fluctuations normal? Can anyone provide some insite as to how trendy Adsense can be?

Adsense is a relatively new program, about 2 years old... the terrible twos. A time of learning, testing, experimenting...

Adwords advertisers are realizing that they can get cheap visitors from content ads and seem to be lowing their bids on content sites. It's been a trend since Adsense started.

To keep your EPC up, you really need good search engine listings. By chance, did your site also lose search rankings on the 20th/21st? Adwords advertisers like search results better than content sites, better ROI. But, if the visitor came straight from a SERP, under their(the Adwords advertiser) keyword/key phrase, smart pricing comes into play and you'll get more for that click.

I read about the changes in search engine results (bourbon) but my page was actually on the 2nd page of Google for the main keyword before and is now page 1 - 4th result down with MSN and Yahoo positions remaining at number 1.

If anything, I am receiving more visitors from Google now so I can rule out the effect of changes in search engine positioning.

This is a wake up... dropped 80% in earnings from 1000.00 to 60.00 a day. little upset the same time frame as everyone has been describing. come on yahoo ad program lets get it rolling.

1000 -> 200 would be an 80% drop. You are talking crazy numbers, having a hard time believing it. You must have all your eggs in one basket.

I don't understand why people are surprised by google and the way the updates flatline their sites...

Google is known for this...if you are getting any traffic from google take it as a bonus....I do well enough $100+/day without any google traffic...and if I had more time to put into my sites, I would make much much more....without google...

Remember Google does not care about Publishers as much as they care about surfers....and as far as they are concerned there are 1000's of sites out there just as good as yours (or better)....

That being said...I feel your pain...I would hate it if my earnings went back to $2/day like they were last year...
