After all wouldnt it be good if the vistor could then go back to the page on the pub's site and maybe look at another ad?
Think like an advertiser for a second. Wouldn't you prefer that each visitor coming from an AdSense click have your undivided attention? If you had AdSense on your site as an advertiser, or other outbound links, wouldn't you prefer traffic to click one of your own links (since you paid for that visitor)?
Thus, by not letting ads be opened in new windows, Google is respecting the user right to choose. I think they are right.
Clicks on Google ads must not result in a new browser window being launched.
