Adsense this month so far sucks

My adsense so far for May has just dropped off the table...at least 5X per day less so far this month.

The crazy thing is that traffic has gone up..page views have gone up, impressions have gone up...

Any ideas or just the same ol "can predict google" thing?

Maybe the top paying advertisers aren't paying what they used to for the clicks.

Bots and spiders have already gone wappy this month. One site has had more than 50% bot activity for the first 3 days!

Our earnings are where we expected them to be even with all these crazy holidays.

"Can't predict Google" thing.

One thing is predictable. Whatever your earnings are, if you do nothing, they will invariably go down.

I guess Adsense is for those "active" publishers. Nose to the grindstone, kinda like work, eh?

Sorry to be so discouraging, just my experience. Only way I can find to keep revenue steady or increasing is to add more content, more pages, work like a dog, never take a day off. Kind of ruins the whole experience for me.

I don't think adsense is only for active publishers, but it sure can't hurt to have active, relevant content.

I don't see any downturn in the whole 3 days of this month that have passed so far :)

It's not all doom and gloom. As has been said many times, a bad month for someone, is a great month for someone else.

I've had a shocking last few days. It's not really that CPM had dropped as thats already hovering around the minimum, it's more that people seem to have stopped clicking adverts :(

A few findings of mine: the last week was one of the worst ever. At first I experienced a huge drop in click value. Now I can see a big drop in CTR. Ads are targeted at something "similar" to my site topic. I think bids on this "similar" topic are lower and this causes the drop.
What's interesting is that on the main page I have two blocks: one at the top and one at the bottom. While, in the past, the bottom ad block was consistently getting low paid clicks, during the last days I can see that clicks on the bottom ad block can value up to 50% more on the dayly average.
One guess might be: since AdSense is using a "similar" topic for the main ads, it might be that what it now considers "partially off-topic" is what I was getting as the main topic in the past. I can't understand why AdSense is not considering ad history (what actually worked in the (near) past)...

I'll echo what Rodney said. My site's eCPM is up about 6% from April so far, but since May is only three days old, it's a bit early to forecast a trend.

It could be that "smart pricing's" seemingly random shot-in-the-dark has hit your site's bulls-eye.

May's been great for me, earnings up 30% . I agree with fearlessrick, adsense is not for the faint of heart.

funny - my main site had 28k pages indexed in google, then suddenly all the descriptions were gone, and now i have 700 pages left (still without description). Traffic has gone down from 4000 adsense impressions a day to about 3000, BUT, EPC is up from average $35 last month to (so far in these first few days of May) $45.

So, end result, I´m still at my average earnings so far this month.

Google works in mysterious ways, and I've seen it countless times here and through my personal experience, it seems Adsense has a way to limit your revenue if you grow too much, or if you shrink too.

So far this is my best AdSense month ever thanks to a $500 spike on May 2. I hope to reach at least $6000 to $7000 at the end of this month.

The smart pricing and ad rotation are driving me nuts.

Looking over the last few days I see channels that have nickle clicks one day and multi-dollar clicks the next. This pattern is similar across more than a dozen topics. Occasionally (seems random chance) I get days when they all are on the nickle click cycle and CPM goes to all time lows... several days later they all might be on the high cycle and CPM goes to nose-bleed levels as does revenue.

I have many sites about many things so I can only suggest that diversification is the way to go.

May is starting off very poorly, almost laughable. Just to update, I am seeing my lowest EPC THIS YEAR today, at under .04 cents. No sinlge day has been under 4 cents per click this year, and only one day has been under 5.

I feel like a victim of the stupidity of smart pricing but am going to ignore it and just work to improve my site. Really tough to do, though. Feeling very much like my assets are being looted.

May has been great for me so far, with the first 4 days being some of the highest earning for me yet. Every month has gotten better for me, though, so I'm not really surprised.
