I have been publishing and running banners and adsense type programs since 1999. I am new to this forum and am finding it extremely informative. Great group of people you have here... it's hard to find people who make a living off of websites they run.

I do have a question though.. i keep bumping into the phrase "scraper site" - Whats does this mean?

Just try almost any keyword in G.
First 10 sites will be a scraper sites.

:)

I'm kidding.

But normally You'll see at least couple of them in the
top results.

I can't provide you with exact link (against TOS)

Scraper sites means just that - sites that have scraped (ie copied via automation) most/all of their content from other sites relating to their topic(s) or from SERPs relating to their topic.

A typical end-result will be a large site (probably several thousand pages) composed of natural keyword-laden content which will eventually be used to drive incoming traffic into the site and then monetise that traffic on the way out, "encouraging" the user to leave via a monetised exit (aff links, ads etc) as soon as possible.

Ok... so a niche directory of sites that have been assembled by hand, ie like a mini dmoz on a particular subject would not be considered as scrape.. I have heard these being called "vortals" before.. so is there a difference between a vortal (list of relavant links / niche portal) and a scraper?
