I recently spoke to a friend of mine who said they are running google adsense on freehosting websites such as the ones with domains like username.domain.com or domain.com/user is this allowed now? i thought google didnt let people do this. If they are allowed how does that sit with free hosting sites that already have ads that the host puts on that arent adsense isnt that against the tos if the user puts adsense on those pages?

thanks in advance,
i am just very curious about this.

As long as the other ads being displayed aren't "contextually delivered" you're ok. If they're just random banner ads delivered by the free host then that's ok with Google as I understand it.

what is meant by contextual, and what if the free host uses pop-ups like people with .tk domains?

Thanks again :)

Pop-ups, pop-unders, or pop-tarts :) are against TOS. Can't have them on an Adsense site.

Contextually delivered is how adsense works which you probably know. Meaning, the ads are delivered to your site based upon the text or content of that page. Specific to your site. Adsense doesn't let you run their system on any page with a similar system. They do let you run it on a page with random ads and banners though.

I haven't checked TOS lately, but I run popups on a site Google just did a manual review on and they didn't mention it. I'm pretty sure popups/popunders are OK for Adsense sites. You cannot have the Adsense code in a popup, but the use of them is allowed. AdWORDS is another story, and does not allow any pops on the landing page.

Sites may not include: ...Pop-ups, pop-unders or exit windows that interfere with site navigation, obscure Google ads, change user preferences, or are for downloads. Other types of pop-ups, pop-unders, or exit windows may be allowed, provided that they do not exceed a combined total of 5 per user session

Would this make .tk sites allowed then?

Frankly, never been to a domain with a .tk extension - never seen them in serps that I frequent.

They're free, aren't they?

Yes they are a free domain that redirects to your site and displays a popup,

Sorry about posting an example.

The only safe way to check is to contact the adsense team. If you are already a publisher, then just say something like:

"I would like to start using Adsense on www.example.com. According to my understanding of the Terms and Conditions, the limited popups that show on this domain are permissable, but I would prefer confirmation."

And then wait for their response, and keep the email handy, just in case. :)
