Has anyone noticed a massive increase in CPM in the last few hours?

It looks like it's going to be a very merry Christmas : )

<sigh>

Sorry to disappoint you but that's stats playing catch-up. It's been on several sites I monitor and it's not a sudden jump in CPM. Google just released (I suspect) clicks they had withheld previously for double-checking.

Yes, one of my best days, ever.

As I said I'm sorry to disappoint you but that CPM won't hold out for much longer, probably not even till the end of today! In fact, it should start dropping a bit round about .... now.

Move along, nothing to get excited about here :)

About delays in click stats...

Do you think there is some extra time in these cases:

1. New Ad in a new channel.
2. Some change in the format Ad without changing channel.

Thanks

I know this may be difficult to answer but what is a respectable CPM and click through rate?

I am new to this but get a more or less consistant
click through of 5% and CPM of 20.

Am I doing things about right?

I know this may be difficult to answer but what is a respectable CPM and click through rate?

That depends on the topic, the type of content, and the audience. What might be a staggeringly high CPM or clickthrough rate on a forum about politics could be awful on a special-interest editorial, e-commerce, or search page.

Special interest travel site.

Google seems to get the ads spot on.

20%CPM and 5% click through.

Should I be trying harder?

Seeing a big increase too...

Maybe the increase in CPM is a change in Google Algo -and the percentage given to publishers?

cleanup, I personnaly think you are doing pretty well, especially if you are running a legit (aka, not sollely made for adsense site) than a 5% ctr is really good.

Ok, now let's get some replies from those who are having a terrible CPM day. This way we can conclude that it has nothing to do with google. We all have up and down days.

Those who posted earlier that CPM was up will see it gradually drop over the course of the day. It may still end up more than previous days but not by the massive amount you saw earlier. See msg #2 and #4 above.

Gosh, some publishers do get excited at the most trivial things! Not knowing about the delayed stats puts you at a disadvantage in that you may attribute gains - like today's - to the wrong factors - like a change in ad colour.

It's amusing to see some of the theories (like the Christmas bonus and payout percentage ones). The payout percentage one is particularly hilarious considering the CPM figures rose by over 100% for some publishers. Maybe this is a wind up because it also suggests a possible algo change as being the cause ;)

wgonz, those are good questions. You are on the right track. I think the answers are yes and yes... but that's just a guess.

For the damper --

There's NOTHING terribly exciting with my stats. If at all, CPM is lower than usual. Not seeing in any of our websites the incredible CPMs that others are seeing.

I have always suspected but haven't been able to prove that threads like this are started by someone having a great CPM day. Then you'll get replies from everyone else having great cpm days. Those not having a particularly good day won't bother to reply.

I suppose we could test this theory by starting two threads at the same time. One for those having a great day and one for those having a bad day. If both threads receive approximately the same number of replies, we know it's just coincidence.

Maybe better to just keep it consolidated in a single thread titled something like ...

"I'm having a Marvelous/Miserable Day day from a (Pick an Adsense topic) point of view, how about you?"

I'm happy when I make X amount by noon Pacific, and on most days I do. Anything over that is just frosting on the cake.

Thanks Eugine,
Yes the site has existed for years I only put adsense on three months ago as a bit of fun. I has suprised me and surpassed expectations.

Oh, by the way (for the thread) CPM more or less normal today.
