Sudden Increase

Has anyone else noticed a sudden increase since 11th October.

The number of clicks reported has nearly doubled (along with the earnings) but the number of impressions has only increased slightly (approx 10%)

I have not done anything to any of my sites over the last few days and nothing has changed in Google.

Any comments appreciated.

Hi,

As has been pointed out often before, there is a lot of noise in the system and one weird value means nothing. I had my best-ever day yesterday by a very wide margin, just about paying the hosting/bandwidth fees for the first time...

I shall not be giving up the day jobs just yet!

Yesterday was also a good day for me.

But I suspect it was because I put up some new content that seems to score well.

Thats the thing though. It's not one weird value (have had those many times before, it be the same for the last 3 days.

Hi,

Well I had my two best days in a row, but 2 is simply a large value of 1, statistically! %-P

Yep. Something is up.

I started a few months ago and up until late Sept., my earnings were at a certain point (quite good, I thought). Then in late Sept. the earnings went down about 35-45% and have stayed there ever since. Impressions and clicks were about the same, just the value of the clicks went down. Reading this board made me prepared for potential ups and downs, so I figured it was just one of those things.

But today, it's YOW! Really up. Really good. Impressions seem to be about the same, CTR is high but not outrageously so. Something is up. Hope it stays up, or at least, that things not go down too much.

I have noticed an increase since Monday, but its an increase across the board. More page views, more clicks, higher CTR, and more payout per click. I'm wondering if Google implemented something that does different content matching and serves up the highest paying ads based on the content. Many of the ads showing on my sites are different than they have been for the past couple of months. It could also be that there's some new competition for the top ad going on in our industries.

I do know that over the weekend my main site went from 40 to 20 for a single word term that has over 10 million results and went to number 1 for several of my money terms. This could account for a rise in traffic and clicks, but not necessarily in CTR or payout per click.

I just noticed the increase i got on october 10 also. My CTR was only 0.3% and got about $11 with 25 clicks.

My october 11 looked normal, just my october 10 that was standing out.

It was an especially cool day today with temperatures 10 degrees below normal, but yesterday it was above normal. I think now it is going to be cool all week.

Hi endomorph1,

OK, I give in! I just had my third record day in a row by a very large margin. Maybe Google screwed up their arithmetic and will claw it all back, but yesterday just paid for hosting charges twice over. Now I have to explain to AS about capex! Keep it rolling! B^>

Yup, big increase from the 11th. Maybe fluke? Maybe something happened at the plex?

Strange? Or just maybe we are all in the same sector and one or two big advertisers bumped up their spend?

Seems to me something happened on 11th. I have been adding new pages, optimizing, etc, so it's difficult to be certain of the cause, but on the 11th my CTR almost doubled. Since then it's gone back to about normal, but the CPM remains high.

Possibly some new ad campaigns have started? I have been recording 7-day averages and the CPM trend is upwards, although not as good as August.

Yep, also with me.

I have seen this before in september 2003. Very good earnings till halfway october and then my earnings were going downhill.

Christmas shopping and Christmas ad buying appear to both have taken a big jump in the past three to four days.

It appears that the cost per click on ads related to Christmas has almost doubled in the past couple of days and the volume of ads available has gone up as well.

october 11th and october 12th were very good days for me too. october 13th was still good to, but today is dissapointing up till now.

I'm definitely up as well. I'll bet this has everything to do with Christmas, as advertisers are starting to be willing to promote early and hard to get customers coming their way.

Preliminary reports show that today isn't as good as yesterday (which was quite good), but today isn't really bad (so far) either. No way of knowing until later on in the day.

October 14, 2003 was, if I remember right, "disaster day" as that's when they introduced broad matching ...and earnings plummetted. Today is the first anniversary of D-Day. Be afraid, be very afraid :)

Today looks like it's going to be a good day. It's not yet halfway through the day (in Google-time) and I've already earned almost as much as I have been making for the whole day (at least in these last few weeks). If this continues for the rest of the day it will be a good day indeed.

We will see.
