I find it funny that folks here always assume that if you report a site, then it must be a competitor. It is NOT ALWAYS a competitor. It can be any site that one sees violating the TOS, whatever industry they may be in.
The moral is -- abide by the TOS always. If not, G may see you. Or if G will not see you, someone else will and report you to G.
If you are the one setting the policies and rules, own them, fine. If G asks you to help, fine. As long as G owns their rules and does not ask for help, I don't really see the point of spending your time with it.You might cause a lot of counter reaction from folks who (sometimes) do not take this stuff so easy, this would cause you to suffer as well.G makes (almost) all the money, they set up the rules, let them inforce the rules too. Who are we to do so? Do you re-program traffic lights because someone ran on red?
Google DOES ask you for your help mate, better catch up before you write. From the "Ads by Goooooogle" link:
Google would like to know what you think of these ads. Please provide your feedback by filling out this form:
I went to fill out the form and let G know there was nothing wrong with the ads itself, it's the page that bothered me.
As far as people who think of people like myself as rats, I am not to bothered. I am just trying to protect what's mine (which is a decent monthly income as a publisher). The only resemblance between myself and a rat is that we both like cheese as far as I am concerned.
if google has problem publishers, they need to deal with the issue and monitor it. if they have insufficient manpower, hire more people.
with regard to advertisers getting conversions, i think a lot of that should be laid at the feet of advertisers. their pages load so slow that it is no mystery that some people click ads, give up on waiting for the advertiser's landing page (most people are still on dialup), and back out. that means no conversion---but that is not the adsense publisher's fault.
And yes I DID stumble upon this spammer when I was looking for something.
That happens a lot. As Google users we all have a perfect right to complain if there's useless crap in the top results.
It only takes a few seconds to enter a comment via the "Help us improve" link at the bottom of the search page, and it's NOT "tattling" or "being a rat" to do so.
Quality pages don't trigger complaints.

If it does not work there are two options: Google goes broke with their tool, so we'll use something else or we'll be asked for help in an acceptable set of rules and responsibility. Then we can reconsider, but not with shots from the hip, playing heros where there are none needed.

[edit reason] No politics, as per TOS [/edit]
"Help us improve" link - google has asked for help - I give them help - that goes for SERPS as well as adsense.
It is not ratting/snitching - it is feedback on the program/SE - and that's where the problem should be fixed - in the SERPs - spam is spam.
Reporting a competitor just to cause hassle however is just feedback spam - and google will (I hope) be wise to it.
martinibuster: I'll remember the helping out the newbie though - if I see someone encouraging clicks in a newbie way - To: webmaster@example.com -> Check your Adsense TOS...
I see so many of those directory pages per day, it's not funny. If I reported all those guys, I'd hardly have time to do my own optimizing.
Let's just leave it up to google to police thier own search engine. What incentive do we have to help Google improve their share values?
For the "principled" person who feels it's their cyber-civic duty to report that abuse... wisen up. Instead of spending time trying to stop others, why don't you spend the same amount of time optimizing your own site and generating your own traffic? Or, you can shoot yourself in the foot and take time away from making more money with your site and instead give it to Google to make "their" program better. Geez Louise.
There is an inverse correlation between your own earnings and your concern about other people's sites. The more you make, the less you'll care. I promise.
And I promise you this as well... Google knows who's doing what. They have an agenda and they have a priority of what to handle and take care of first. I have been at the end of Google's pointed gun in the past, and I know that they will pull the trigger.
Folks, concentrate on your own site. It's not your job to go around policing the net. If you spent your time looking for terrorists -- okay, I'll applaud you. But you're sticking your nose in other people's business. There are billions of webpages on the net, billions more using the big G's ads. Even if you rat on 5,000 "bad" sites a day you wouldn't make a dent. Give up the delusions of "importance". No one's biting except you and your fellow ex-hall monitors.
It's not your job to go around policing the net.
But filing a complaint when you get hit in the face with garbage is not exactly going around policing the net.
I'm getting a chuckle out of how rigid and judgmental and disapproving the "anti-tattlers" are. They're certainly equal to any "tattler" in that regard!
This thread is going nowhere... There are different groups of people with different opinions. Why not just let everybody decide what to do for themselves? If want to report a spammy site and feel good about that, then what's the problem? If someone else feels good about not reporting it - that's fine by me as well.
Oh well, guess some of you got bullied in highschool or something, so who's to blame.

The URL points to a warez web site. Should I contact Google regarding it?
