I've been with adsense for several months now, but today I noticed 4 instances of [pagead2.googlesyndication.com...] as a referer. I haven't seen that before.
Does anybody know why that would suddenly appear in my stats? Thanks for any comments,

Are you using a default "alternate" ad that is based on your pages?
like mydomain.com/default.htm

I saw it a few months ago on someone else's site logs. I could never find a valid answer as to why it showed up and would still like to know. There is a thread about it somewhere here.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it is when a visitor clicks on an "Adword" ad. If you have ads running in Adword, sometimes these referers appear. Well it did for me but with lots of extra information attached at the end. You can even check it by visiting the page and seeing the Publishers banner they're using for Adsense.
