Non English ads

on a english site...?

Hello,

I am getting non english ads on a english site .
is this common happening to many of you or is it not supposed to happen. I have not changed any language preferences in my account!

I've seen what looks like German a few times.

My site is in English, and one of the pages, which is about 2 months old now and it continually, shows a mix of English & German Ads.

I do live in Germany, but my site is hosted in the UK

The ironic thing is that i am in the middle of having my site translated into German right now ahahah

But no German pages are up and no mention of Germany or anything German.



Maybe Adsense has a sixth sense ;)

it's called "geo-targeting", and has happened as long as I know about adwords/adsense. Why shouldn't they show german language ads to a german audience?

Geotargeting? Can't be right then, because I saw ads that look like Finnish to me. Today in my site, from a New Zealand IP address...

This can happen if an advertiser has selected "All Languages" when creating their campaign. Advertisers select from a list of target languages (and also a list of target countries) to which they want their ad shown. If they select all languages, the result is that their French ad (or German or Spanish, etc) could show up on your English-language site.

There's also geotargeting, as bird pointed out - this allows advertisers to target users from specific countries, based on IP address. So visitors to your site from Canada will see ads targeted to Canadians, as well as ads targeted to "All Countries."

Yes, i was probably getting a german ad, the domain with extension .de . However, that ad is not showing now.
