hide url display on ads - against tos?

What's the final verdict on displaying the ad url? Must it be displayed or is it within TOS to blend with back ground. Have read throughout web that the adsense setup tool will display it anyway (that it can't be hidden). Plus some adds don't show it. Is there a thread on this or some answers you could direct us to?

Thanks

TOS is very clear about not altering the ad-code other than with the tool as provided in Adsense. Any other alteration is not allowed (for non-premium publishers).

If you want to hide the URLs, just run Leaderboard ads. The urls do not show up by default.

but the question is whether or not you can make the url color the same as the background color, thus making it invisible, even though this can be done with the adsense set up tool.

I've been leary of trying this, but google does give you the means to do this. Anyone have anything more definitive on this?

I've never tried it, but I've seen posts where people said that if they tried to set up the ad in such a way as to hide the URL, it displayed anyway.

ya, the feature is there to enable the link to be in any color. thus same color with ur bg and appear invisible. but this really violate the T&C.

use the leaderboard instead.

or, a slight different from bg color will do.

another tips. u can hide the "sponsor on this site" words as well. this well make ur site look better.

hope this helps.

What is the point to hiding them? It is really just a label and alot of the time, not the real URL.

wrong advice. only true, if 4 ads are displayed. in many cases less than 4 ads appear in the ad block and then the url is shown.

Have read throughout web that the adsense setup tool will display it anyway (that it can't be hidden).

What you read is correct, at least if you're talking about using the code supplied by Google. Why not just try it out on a dummy page rather than asking a bunch of strangers?

BTW you can always use color to set the URL apart and make it less conspicuous. There's nothing wrong with that, because the URL is a different kind of supplementary information that shouldn't be confused with the text of the message anyway.
