What is a good Page eCPM?

Is it worth me putting more effort in...

I'm about a month into using adsense and I'm getting a page eCPM of USD3.37 from 7000 page impressions.

Is this eCPM good, bad or about average?

If it's good then I can concentrate my efforts of getting more traffic.
If it's bad then I need to focus on optimising the traffic I'm already getting.

Would appreciate you thoughts. Thanks in advance

How long is a pice of string? I guess your eCPM is much greater than mine but everything is relative.

String length is indeed relative, which is why I'm trying to get a gauge of how I'm doing... Interested to hear my eCPM is bigger than yours (!) Intersted to hear from anybody else...

Looks okay for me. All you need to do now is work on those page impressions. :-)

What level of eCPM to expect greatly depends on your site's topic and format (forum, blog, informational, reviews, freebies etc).

More information would help us to answer this question, if you're game.

If I were to say that for 100+ sites during the month of April my eCPM varied between USD 7-13.

Would that help, I doubt it since you don't know my niche and I don't know yours?

For some sites, with several million page impressions per month, they would love your eCPM.

Work on your traffic...I know, easier said than done, however it is one of the major answers to higher earnings.

Thanks everyone... Already very helpful... I guess I'm just trying to assess how optimal it's theoretically possible to get, so OptiRex your USD7-13 shows me that it's possible to do better

Laertes - Always game! My site is a magazine dealing with blues music here in London UK. We have gig listings, interviews features, reviews and news... Been running just over a year and a half and getting around 5000 visitors a month... Estimate page impressions will work out at around 10,000 plus, based on current content, but content is always increasing...

Great site, for me anyway, however I feel you need to place your ads better to increase your CTR etc.

The topic of the site greatly dictates your CPM. One of my sites get the same traffic level, but the CPM is 12-18 times higher than yours - and that could create a huge difference in revenues.

Thanks... Any thoughts on how I could better place the ads?

Have a look at the Adsense Heatmap -- it works.

Any thoughts on how I could better place the ads?

In my experience the righthandside 160 x 600 is probably not working. I don't know about others however whenever I had a column hanging on the right like this it just did not perform.

Having said that your pages are quite long therefore it is possible that its position lends itself to advertising but from a normal visitor's view the ads are not seen at all.

As a tester I would take it from the bottom position and put it in the middle to see what happens but my guess would be that it would perform much better in the lefthandside margin beneath the navigation.

I see you've already implemented an AdLinks unit where I was about to suggest! Try it for a few days "as is" however I have found that traditional blue hyperlinks perform very well.

Try not to put too many ads on a page, I see you're running the maximum possible which will hurt since low paying ads will creep in.

And...this is the only time I feel jealous of NOT living in a big city! It's a real problem getting these guys to come to our neck of the woods:-(

Thanks OptiRex, and for saying nice things about the site!

So you reckon 'Less is more' when it comes to ads? The right hand column actually works OK - it's getting clicks, so I guess maybe I'll try removing the bottom one...

As long as your doing some experimenting, there's no reason to settle for "OK". I would also try optirex's suggestion of putting them on the left hand column. You may find you can do a lot better than OK.
Best of luck.

So you reckon 'Less is more' when it comes to ads?

The general consensus is that an AdLink unit or one LeaderBoard or one Skyscraper works best and derives the best earnings. When my dropped a year ago I removed everything but the above and now my EPC is almost double!

Two 468 x 60 half banners are good and yours are nicely placed.

Some swear by a large rectangle unit however my feelings are that it would look ugly on your site.

The right hand column actually works OK - it's getting clicks,

You want more than OK, you want great:-)) Keep moving them around however I'll bet it ends up on the left:-)

Your eCPM is pretty decent already (at least 300 times higher than mine :( )

My CPM is about $1~2. It seems not good.

I wish the AdSense account had an option to set IP addresses to ignore page impressions for.

I reckon a quarter of the impressions come from me on days when I'm testing new pages or new layouts, and that makes it difficult to know what the real figures are.

Back on topic, your eCPM is higher than mine, bluesinlondon. (I won't say what it is exactly because I don't think the AdSense T&Cs permit me to do so.)
