I betcha parasite site owners really really complain
Don't bet....you'll probably lose.
Maybe THIS is what has been effecting us all (some of us all) the past few weeks? The "rolling thunder...." Google experimenting with Big Dady... as I saw THIS SERP pattern when Big Dady was first announced, but then it reverted back to "normal." It must have been fluxtuating back & forth between different Big Dady versions... I surely wasn't spending time watching all the nuances!
So question... if Big Dady knocks say... 25% of the pages of your site from #1 or #2 SERP to #8 & #9... or heaven's forbid... dropped to the second page of results, does THAT lower CTR (I say no)...
Does it change the ADS displayed on the pages? (different, less appealing ads would discourage click through) Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe?
So I have to deal with less traffic coming from Google, and less people that visit the site, clicking on AdSense Ads...
Not a pretty picture... BUT at least the problem is identified (I think)

ditto here - traffic has been rising this year and so have Adsense revenues. Jan and Feb were record months, March appears a little lower in general and I have seen a fall off in CTR over the last few days as some have noted. However, I have seen this before a number of times and it has always recovered. There appears to be a new traffic mix and my traffic is higher from different sources so I'm not particularly worried. Adsense revenue goes up, it goes down. The one thing that does surprise me is that given all the factors and variables my eCPM over time is remarkably stable month on month.
Hmmmmmmmmm, who was that "SMART" poster who made this prediction earlier on this thread... only to be chided.
Some of us don't moan unless there is a REAL reason... BUT I didn't expect Google's "mea culpa" so quickly!
Thankyou moTi for bringing GoogleGuy's "Big Dady is broken" comments to our attention...
And GUESS what happens, Sir William?
People don't CLICK as much on the ads... I experienced almost a 50% drop in CTR...
Do you know WHY... Sir William?
Because THEY ALREADY SAW MANY OF THE SAME ADS PREVIOUSLY ON THE HIGHER RANKED SITES... and not to mention also in Google's Ads off to the righthand column...
Why the HECK would they click on them again (if they even clicked on them when first seen on the previously visited sites)?

This last week has been different.
If you disagree please don't reply, I won't believe it.
I contacted my rep about the drop in the earnings last weekend, and his response was that they were performing tests on weekend/monday and that is most likely the reason for the drops. He also wrote that they believe the tests will improve their system and it will show as increased revenue during the following days and weeks.
You will see the amount of clicks, impressions and earnings at the end of the day, so why bother refreshing the reports page every 10 minutes and panicing when Google isn't updating as fast as usual.
Post here after your clicks and/or earnings have been lower than normal for 1-2 days, not if you didn't earn as much as you did the day before between 1 and 3 p.m. It simply doens't mean a thing, it's the sum at the end of the day/week that counts. You can't even measure stats from just one or two days earnings.
My 57,2 cents.
I'd like to sincerely apologize to incrediBILL and all the other members for making false accusations and then dashing off. It was irresponsible of me.
Obviously I was very put off by what I saw and read but had NO right to compromise Bill's integrity. Again sir... my sincerest apology and I'll now return to Lurkerville.
Nice to understand that Google's tweaking the system to help improve everyone's earning...
Many of us will be very happy once they have found the right "settings..."
Between this, and Big Dady's fluxuations & index being broken... I think there is ample evidence that things have not been "business as usual" lately... and their indeed has been something "afoot" with the AdSense network.
And shouldn't it be called "Big Daddy" not "Big Dady"? Or did I miss out on some clever name evolution, as I don't spend my entire waking-life here on WW... only come when there are MAJOR problems going on...
That said, unfortunately it leads to one of the usual conclusions... those of us that have been experiencing the "turmoil's" simply have to wait for Google techs to finish the main body of changes & tweaks they are making... and then see how things end up.
Usually it is a Net Positive for most publishers... Here's wishing that ALL OF YOU are included on the "Net Positive" side of the equation!
(Even IncrediBill)

Seems to be "Bigdaddy," read the history here:

I think you might be missing something here. It's easy to miss if you haven't been through Internet business history.
1) It's ALWAYS changing. It won't stop changing. Google is constantly tweaking its algos. If you are going to have an emotional reaction at every twitch or tweak, you probably need to get out of the business.
2) The adsense "pot" is finite. Hopefully it grows, but it WILL contract over time for periods of time. It's therefore a partial ZERO sum game. Not everybody will see increases. Some will see increases. Some will see decreases. In other words, not everyone can win all the time.
3) There's a real lack of understanding of how algo's work, and how google works in both adsense and search. Google's goal is to maximize its revenue ACROSS the ENTIRE NETWORK. It doesn't, (and can't) care whether any individual site does better or worse (with some exceptions). They constantly tweak the algo's, for let's say adserving or smart-pricing. Not only that, but in multi-variable algos where the variables interact, NOT EVEN GOOGLE can predict how an algo change will affect an individual site. Even if they wanted to, which they don't.
So, here's the bottom line. Everything will fluctuate. There will always be winners and losers. That's why we see the "yesterday was bad" from one person, while another says "yesterday was good".
There will always be "something happening". There will always be an appearance for some that "something is wrong". You can spend your time complaining, or worrying about all these realities that you can't change in the least. Or you can spend your time building the best quality sites you can, and hope that over time, things will work out.
Or, you can dig ditches instead. It's no doubt a lot more sedate and regular, and predictable.
There is simply no such thing as "business as usual" over the longer term in this business.
Following the weekend things picked up on Monday and continued through Wed. Now things are worse then they were the weekend. Something is seriously wrong here!
This has been my experience, but I won't be worried until next week. Fluctuations happen (although it is strange that so many of us are having the same experience, concerning we cover many areas).
Wednesday: 100 clicks by 2:30pm
Thursday: 350 clicks by 2:30pm
Without fail, page views and clicks are ALWAYS 10% lower on Thursday than Wednesday for me over a 5 year period. However, for the first time, clicks were 3.5x than the day before.
But don't be snide and dismissive of people who are trying to figure this out. I'm really fed up with people saying nothing happened and arrogantly declaring that *their* sites are going strong with no consideration for those who are in anguish. Something is *always* happening and it's always going to be disturbing and scary for some people.
Be kind. Or else! :)

Misery may love company, but that doesn't justify disregarding empirical evidence or attacking members whose experience doesn't support the poster's hypothesis. (We often see a kind of paranoid intolerance in these threads: "My EPC is down, so everybody's must be down, and AdSense is obviously skimming off a bigger share of the profits. Anyone who says otherwise is a shill for Google.")
The topic of discussion is if AdSense was witholding clicks yesterday on March 8, 2006. We've drifted off in multiple directions away from that topic so perhaps we can pick up the different talking points in some of the ongoing discussions, or in new threads.
Thanks!
:)
