Clears up the pop-up / pop-unders issue ...

Remember, all publishers agree to comply with everything in the AdSense policies and FAQ when they agree to the Terms.

In the policies section:

New addition on languages - this has come up a few times lately, so nice to see it added here.

Language
The AdSense ad code may be placed on pages with content primarily in English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish. Ads must not be displayed on any page with content primarily in an unsupported language.

Under Site Content... Sites may not include section they have combined the pop-up and pop-under points into one which makes it much clearer for publishers over what is and what isn't permitted.

Pop-ups, pop-unders or exit windows that interfere with site navigation, obscure AdWords ads, change user preferences, or are for downloads. Other types of pop-ups, pop-unders, or exit windows may be allowed, provided that they do not exceed a combined total of 2 per site

I know they received plenty of emails on this issue, and publishers were receiving answers that contradicted what this said originally, so it is nice to see this cleared up by Google AdSense.

Changes to the AdSense FAQ:
(I am not including changes made on November 13th, which was an undated update of the FAQ by Google with information on their tax issues, which I discussed previously).

Their FAQ now includes links to definitions in their new Google AdSense glossary [webmasterworld.com]. I won't make further reference to what is linked to the glossary, since people can quickly view the FAQ to see.

They removed this paragraph in the opening section, as it is now dealt with better elsewhere:

Please note that Google AdSense currently has limited language support, and new applications must be for English-language sites. Payments are made via check in US dollars. We hope to expand the language and payment options in the coming months.

Added under 2. How does Google target ads to my website?

Our technology can also determine the primary language of a page. If your content is in English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish, AdSense will target ads in the appropriate language to your content. In addition, AdWords ads are geotargeted to your visitor's location.

Under 4. Can I show ads on more than one site? they made a slight change to:

However, you may only place the AdSense ad code on sites that comply with our program policies and that you own or are legally authorized to act on behalf of for the purposes of Google AdSense.

Under May I cancel my AdSense account?

You'll receive your final payment from us within 30 days after the end of the calendar month
This may have caused confusion as before it said "final payment from us at the end of the calendar month"

Under How do you prevent click and page impression spam?, they removed a duplicate sentence.

Under 4. Are non-English websites eligible for Google AdSense? they now specify they only provide support in English, and payment in US dollars:

Currently, publisher account pages and email support are only available in English, and all payments are made in US dollars. We’re working to introduce expanded language and payment support in the future.

They also added/changed this to the same section:

Applications for participation in the program can be for sites with content primarily in English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish. You can select your site’s primary language during the application process. If you’re approved, AdSense will serve relevant ads to your pages in the appropriate language, even if your site contains multiple supported languages.

A big change in 1. How much will I earn through this program? is a possible sign of new stats that will be available to publishers. I have bolded the change:

You'll be able to see the total number of page impressions, ad clicks, clickthrough rate, average earnings per click, and your total earnings

While publishers can calculate EPC themselves, AdSense has never offered this in their reports - hopefully this will be a new addition that is coming soon.

A tax section has been added since the last "dated" FAQ update on October 16, 2003 (they made changes which were not dated on November 13, 2003, and which I discussed in the tax thread)

Under 5. When do I need to submit my tax information? they added 2003 to the November 30 date.

Under 2. How do I know which ad layout works best on my site?, added reference to their new AdSense Tips page [webmasterworld.com].

In the meantime, please read our Tips page for help with optimizing your pages for maximum AdSense revenue

The most welcome change of all this is definitely the clarification on the pop-ups and pop-unders issue, which worried plenty of publishers, since the story from support contradicted the policies.

Well done Jenstar.

Hands up all those of you who see "Amendments" on your Adsense login and think: "I'll wait for Jenstar's summary".

I wonder if they are planning to report average EPC per *site*, since the combined EPC is so easily calculated....

Would make a great addition to the reports.

Would make a great addition to the reports.

I have been wondering if the wite with 25% of the traffic of the other one is pulling in more than its share. You are right, it would make a great addition.

After consideration I suppose I would rather have CTR for each site than EPC (though both would be great). There's not a whole lot we can do about EPC, but CTR can be affected by changes to a site and AdSense placement.

Daily clicks and earnings per site would make me happy. I can calculate everything else from that, at least by parsing web server logs and applying a factor to get impressions.

Breaking the report down by url would even be better. It would be great to know which page is making the money and which one isn't. I am totally clueless.
