Mediapartners-Google robot

Came to site with no AdSense on it

The Mediapartners-Google robot is supposedly only used by Google to get content of page for serving AdSense ads. It came to one of my sites yesterday that has no AdSense on it, checked robots.txt then went to one page. This site is new and has never been crawled by Google before. The site is linked to from three sites that don't have AdSense. What can this mean?

probably means that Google is checking out sites that don't have adsense but that might want it... at some point (and I'm just speculating here), you'll probably get contacted by Google to see if you'd like to put adsense on your site...

Actually that was how I got to learn about AdSense when I found Mediapartners in my logs and after that joined the program..
Logs spam? Far from it, I am very glad they inroduced themselves to me :)

It must be related to the AdSense preview tool I think. Anyone can use the preview tool in any web page to see with kind of Ads it would display.

Not sure if the older versions of Opera still have an Adsense banner, but that can be another possibility.

Someone using Opera 8.01 visited my site two seconds before the Google bot.

Just did a Google search for opera 8 mediapartners. In another forum someone said in a response to a situation like mine "...I think it's the Google MediaPartners bot visiting when users of the ad-sponsored versions of Opera 7 or 8 visits."

So, Jimbeetle, I think your answer is correct.

An important piece of information I left out: The page the visitor using Opera visited was the same one the Mediapartners-Google robot did.
