Can Click Value rebound from smart pricing?

I designed a site for a friend to sell widgets, his site had a PR1 but he got out of the business so we pulled the shopping cart system (but leaving products and descriptions). Rather than pull the site entirely since it gets decent traffic, I put adsense on each page about two days ago.

These widgets are pretty popular, and people who visit this site are generally ready to purchase one (the CTR is about 50%). The first click landed about 90 cents, the second landed 40, the third about 30 cents, and now all clicks are about 20 cents each.

So is this the result of smart pricing? Is there a chance that the amount made per click could rise again, and is there any way that I can improve those chances?

I doubt it could be smart pricing after only 3days in operation. Smart pricing algo usually runs once a week. That variation in click price is not uncommon at all. It depends on which ad they click and how much that ad is worth. It could be that the .20 ad is more on target or more attractive to your visitors. On one of my sites clicks have varied from .05 to 2.10. Also many users here would kill for consistent .20 clicks and a decent CTR. You can improve by trying different places to put the ads and playing around with the colors. Only you can find out which type of ad will work best for your site. There are many other theories on other things you can try on this forum to increase your earnings, I suggest you have a look.

Even if it is smart pricing, smart pricing DOES go up as well as down, as it responds to changes on your site, in your traffic, and in the ads.

Thanks for the replies. yes, 20 cent clicks are still good in the bigger scheme of thigns, especially when I'm still getting those 3 and 4 cent clicks on other sites.

For the first two months or so I was earning about $13-$20 a day, then it dropped to $6-$11 a day. I'm just trying to get into that $50 a day club.

Several months ago I noticed that earlier in the working week tended to attract higher click values than later in the week. I presume that this is because as the week starts, businesses are applying this weeks budget to their adwords accounts so on Mondays there are more businesses and more dollars competing for clicks. As the week passes, funds run out and competition is reduced therefore causing lower value clicks.

As click values overall have gotten lower and lower it has become increasingly difficult to spot these sort of trends but I'd be surprised if this weekly pattern isn't still happening.
