No login details for Adsense

Is it just me?

A lot of the time I use a Pocket PC to access my Adsense account, especially when away. Being a 2003 version of the Operating System it doesn't have a java platform. As a result I've not been able to log in to Adwords from the pda, it doesn't display the log on boxes (email and password).

This morning my Adsense logon boxes have also disappeared. I assume they've changed the logon mechanism to java.

Is anyone else affected by this problem?

Is there an alternative (non-java) way of logging on?

It looks like Adsense is now using the same AJAX technology that GMail uses on the login interface (on a standard machine you'll notice "loading" in a red rectangle). This, by its name, uses Javascript or a derivative and this may be why your device is having difficulty accessing this portion of the page.

Thanks for the explanation, but "Oh *@żĄ$¶&"! The last time I looked for a java platform nothing was supported for PPC 2003 - and using an older, unsupported product, even if it were to work, carries a number of risks.

Neither do I want use other people's PCs to access my account. Some of the places I visit are large organisations where people would be interested in the content (and ads) of my website. This would therefore increase the chances of clicks and my account appearing on the same IP - which would presumably flag my account as containing fraudulent activity.

I'll get to a conventional PC and email Adsense support, but it looks as if access to my account is going to be restricted. :-<

Hi,

JavaScript is not Java, so were you looking for the right thing?

For example, Opera runs on virtually everything (check your electric toothbrush for dental FloSS feeds!) and I bet all versions run JavaScript.

Damon, thanks for the reference to Opera. Unfortunately, although it seems there are versions for every flavour of Windows Mobile 2003 you can think of, it "does not run on Pocket PC" according to the Opera website.

Re the difference between java and javascript, I'm not a techie but do realise there is a difference. On the previous version of Pocket PC, to run javascript you had to install a java platform which not only enabled java applets but also javascript in Pocket IE. However, perhaps they are now separated more in Pocket PC 2003, so I may have been looking for the wrong thing based on the previous OS. I'll do a bit more research.

Problem solved with Netfront v3.2 browser - $30 - runs on Pocket PC 2003 and runs Javascript. Yeeeeeaaay! Thanks for your help.

Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 Internet Explorer, you are the weakest link. Goodbye.
