"An online classified service being tested by Google set off intense speculation today after a Web site for the service was accidentally made public and discovered by a computer programmer on Monday.

The service, named Google Base, which was accessible at base.google.com, described itself as: "Google's database into which you can add all types of content. We'll host your content and make it searchable online for free.""

Yep. This had already crossed my mind and now it's for real...not very good for me as my main site is basically a free classified ads database...

Basically Google's founders were smart, they went for what the growing internet needed - data organization.

So we all can say bye bye to video and photo galleries, classified ads, etc websites....

They'll chunck everything on their system and have the search engine as a giant doorway with google related products on the top spots...

I really don't blame them I would do the same.

Yikes!
I have a classifieds software under development right now.
I think I'll have to do some arranges ... :(

Where will google end? They will be ending up being "the" internet. I really don't like that.
Are they gonna still crawling, indexing and showing eBay's, CraigLists listing, etc?

They will be ending up being "the" internet.

Yep, if they don't fall flat on their face before that by continuing to insult people's intelligence.
