In another twist to Google Inc.'s public stock offering, the Internet search company said federal regulators have opened an informal inquiry into its failure to register millions of shares.

Another hole in Google's bullet-riddled foot... Kind of bad timing for this announcement, along with the questions [webmasterworld.com] about the viability of the "Gmail" trademark. Better to get it out in the open before the auction concludes rather than have new shareholders squawk later.

Still, none of these issues seems fatal.
