New to css - specific links being applied to all

having problems creating links with rollover

Sorry if this does not make sense.

I am creating my first site using CSS for the layout. I have some links on the left that I want to be text / image rollovers. When I view the site all links on the page take on the same attributes. This only happens in Internet Explorer. Is there a way to get around this?

if you view the site in firefox you will see how it should look. If you view the site in internet explorer you will notice the footer is messed up.

also on the firefox version the image in the footer is to the left. it should be centered but is thrown off when I try to make the button rollovers.
