I'm not sure how old this news is, but I just happened to wander into Powell's Books and noticed that there was a decidedly CLEAN feeling to the site. So clear and functional and well, yes, CSS-ey.

So I quickly toggled off Styles and voila!, everything dove into a line down the page...a sure sign that CSS-P is at work. A brief View Source and it's confirmed...not an unnecessary table tag in site, just beautiful div after beautiful div, filled to the brim with wonderfully semantic link lists.

I love it. Add Powells to the list of big sites converted to CSS design. :)

My hat's off to whoever made the decision, and the designer who undoubtedly battled uphill to convince them to do it.

Yes, the page looks pretty good, and it loads quickly. If you run it through the W3C's semantic data extractor [w3.org], though, it has almost no structure. They've got the CSS part right, but the underlying HTML is still weak, I'm afraid.
