background img positioning

100px from top, centred

i want to position a bg image to be 100px from the top of its container and in the centre horizontally. Conatiner is flexible witdh so i cannot position it in px from the left.

background:#282828 url(mybg.gif) 100px center no-repeat;

wont cut it, nor will

100px 50%

any ideas?
