I'm hoping someone can lend a me a little help here.
I'm doing a favor for my neighbor and helping redo her home-run business website (gratis).

I've got the design figured out. It's not strict CSS/XHTML, it's a css and html mix that works to get it done quickly for her, since it's just a favor. (though I'll probably clean it up later cuz it's kinda bugging me already!)

anyway, my problem.
<No URLs, thanks. See TOS [WebmasterWorld.com] and CSS Forum Charter [WebmasterWorld.com]>

in firefox, safari, netscape, mozilla, etc, etc, it looks like I want it to look (never mind the colors and stuff, it'll probably change some still).
but when it's viewed in IE, the title and tagline are not vertically aligned correctly, and the nav section appears too narrow.

can anyone assist with the IE hacks that will make it look better in that dang browser?
thanks so much for any help!

Are you using a full and correct doctype [w3.org]?

fixed it to html 4.0 transitional, and that makes no difference in IE...
thanks though for pointing that out.

any IE specific tips?
