Content property

Is there any other way?

The fact that it's so poorly supported saddens me, because it sounds like an extremely fun and powerful tool. Is there some common method for acheiving similar results outside of Opera? Thanks all.

(I tried searching the forums on this, but for some reason the keyword "content" gets explicitly ignored. Very odd...)

Opera's support is a proprietary extension. See CSS3 Generated Content Working Draft Section 11 [w3.org].

The CSS3 behavior of content is not yet in a CR or TR, so other browser implementers won't override CSS2's content property.

In Mozilla you can do something similar with XBL.
