Everyone sees the benefit and fights it at some level or another.

I learned CSS about 4 years ago the first time, hated it, and never saw the benefit...

I was hooked...on tables.
Lovely, warm, easy, nested, convoluted tables. After a few edits, validation wasn't even an option.

With the help of Nick_W, papabaer, DrDoc, and others I have changed my life with CSS. I am now lighter, stronger, and faster with my code.

I am oft tempted by my former addiction, and have even slipped in instances. Please just remember...one day you are back on tables...the next you have been coding <font> tags daily with 100k of html and are trashing the W3C for not "understanding". Don't let it happend to you.

This has been a public service announcement.

fortunately my new addiction (CSS) enables me to cope with tables as well so a compromise is easily reached in most cases and I can return to my "safe" world with the help of this forum.

I am TheDoctor, and I have been fully converted to CSS since August. It took me nearly a year, working evenings and weekends, but it feels goood. I can now do things on my site for the most modern browsers that I thought were impossible, and I can let users of old browsers have a stripped-down version of the site. It also works for IE.

I have lot's of addictions I have gotten rid of:

Frames and essential JavaScript I have managed to shake the addiction

Tables, every now and again I like to crack open a can of 'table' and place it inside my css laid out page. One step at a time and the addiction will fade. Though I love an injection of table for tabular data.

I sorta get the idea but it’s a pain in the arse, let’s face tables do what they do and then I can always use css as a hack when I need it, but I am trying, bloody SuzyUk made me.

Hehe she’s going to be responsible for the debugging of my site, which hasn’t been update for 15 months…. And there are many many things that she is responsible for. Nutscrape forget it, it’s dead, and Mozilla, yuk terrible rendering. Opera, that’s the 1 does everything it says on the tin.

I would switch but the only layout holding me back is a multiple column layout where all columns are the same height (the shorter columns extend down to the length of the longest). I don't believe this can be done with CSS, can it?

I use this layout too frequently to switch from tables.
