trying to switch to using em for my fonts, but when I set my main font to 1 em it becomes unreadable in IE if the user chooses the smaller font setting. anyone know how to fix that?

yep.. it's an IE bug
declare the <body> font size at 100% then use ems throughout the rest of the page as normal
