what benefits are there to developing a bespoke program?

Hi, my company are looking to develop a bespoke program for use with the Google API, and I wondered if anyone had any experience of this and any advice to give.

The only benefit I can see at the moment is a program that could dynamically update our ads to reflect our current offers that change on a daily basis.

Has anyone else written such a program to run alongside their adwords account?

I have seen a number of companies build bespoke keyword management programs that interface with Google's API, including a publicly-traded auto lead generation firm, a major comparison shopping firm, and a top 10 ecommerce firm. What they get in some cases are systems that are basic, rules-based optimization but they don't have to give conversion data to any 3rd party.

Employees who build the systems also get the satisfaction and careeer experience of doing so.

The organization, on the other hand, wastes 3-12 months' time that could better be spent on other more important tasks and I've yet to see a bespoke system that gets the ongoing investment necessary to keep up with all the AdWords algorithm changes Google throws at us in the industry.
