Alright, for the product I'm marketing, there are quite a few specific keyword phrases that people search for to buy this product. For Instance:

"Buy Blue Widget" or "Blue Widgetizer for Sale"

These types of phrases sound so profitable, that I would love to use them in Adwords. However, according to Wordtracker and Overture's bid tool, they are searched for no more than say 50 times a day, and # of clicks per day would be < 0.1

Are these keywords/phrases still worth including into my Adword campaigns (long term)?

If I do add these into my campaign, can there be any repercussions? (i.e., Google immediately disables them?)

Any advice would be much appreciated! :)

I would still definately add them. It will be these type of specific phrases that will have the highest CTR and ROI (that is if they are relevant to your site).

If you can find several hundred of these phrases and can keep the CTR up without google cancelling them - Then you can overcome the low search rate for each individual phrase.

That's EXACTLY the sort of phrase you should target, unless you are brand driven and want what I call the "ego bid". It is the niche phrases that generate good traffic at a positive ROI.

Great! That's exactly the answer I needed.

Just to make one thing clear, Google won't disable these phrases, just b/c they have low impression numbers - it's just based on CTR, right?

Thanks again!

Not necessarily - it is very hard to predict anymore. If it receives no impressions - or never has been searched, then they will force you to bid higher to get it going. But their rules on this are not very clear.

Very interesting. The product I'm marketing has a good following, but not super-huge. I imagine I could get more conversions if only I could keep these special keywords going in my campaigns - making it all worth while.

Only one way to find out I guess.. ;)

Thanks!

Just a quick update:

I went ahead and created about 5 specific landing pages for the widget I'm marketing. The keywords I used were broad matched, but still very targeted (3-4 words) towards interested customers only.

Here's what happened:

- Incredibly high click-through rates (with a good number of impressions - which shocked me).

- My CPC has gone down dramatically.

- I've got a conversion rate that is sky high. In fact, for a few of the landing pages, I made a sale within the first two clicks of each page (some were on the very first click).

This is in comparison to a test I ran on a more broad keyword base. These didn't convert at all. Now that I used specific and targeted phrases, the money is rolling in.

I'm now building more landing pages for different types of this widget, and am going to try to apply the same process I went through.

Thanks again for your help!

I doubt if this is gonna work anymore after the introduction of keyword suspension policy. If the keywords are low traffic specific terms, they may well end up in being suspended. And you can do nothing about it. The system may or may not show them afterwards.

Yeah, i've been reading about that here and there. Of course, if they were going to do that for sure, then it would be tough to really make Adwords work at all. Imagine if the only kinds of keywords you could incorporate were "sex" or "hosting", etc.

I hope they don't suspend on traffic, but on total CTR. It wouldn't really surprise me though.

It would be ludicrous to suspend such keywords. If they have very high CTR then the ads are very relevent. This is exactly what should be encouraged.
