Many type the urls in Google search instead of in their browser address bar.

Adwords do not seem to target these...

Comments?

Hi Tfx,

Have you actually tried entering a URL as a keyword, or you going on the circumstantial evidence that of the URL's you tried, no adwords appeared?

I suspect however that a valid URL has been detected and the query not sent through the usual query processing routes. If you enter a URL that is indexed you get a specific page of information about that URL, and I'd wager that this takes place before the Adwords engine is reached.

No, google itself will not show an adword based on a url typed into the search box but many of their partners do. It makes it worth while to add it to your keyword list, if you plan on using adwords to direct people to a URL using adwords, even though you will not be able to check it through google.
