After running a few campaigns with content advertising I am not very happy with how it turned out. Waiting a few weeks until better tracking is in place but how do you guys feel about it?

Do you see good sales coming from it?

Did it not become profitable for you until you tracked in depth where the visits were coming from so you could block bad sites generating traffic?

Do you think content advertising can pay off in your exp?

I get zero clicks from Content.

I know that others have had good results, but that's my experience.

I've let it run for thousands of exposures, and NO clicks.

This is for campaigns that get 10-20% CTR on Search.

At least I don't have a click-fraud problem.

Yup jtara, no problems with click fraud. But I'm surprised that you dont get any clicks at all.

Well content targeting does seem to convert, but at a lower rate as compared to search and might also cost a little more, since your paying for more clicks to get the same number of conversions. But then again clicks might be cheaper. Problem is that sometimes the sites the ads show up on are pretty crappy. So if its a leads or sales based campaign, end up getting clicks from there but no conversions. A lot of times ads land up on adult sites too (way too many of those around) so you have to be careful with the keywords.

Sometimes it helps though, because there might be lesser competition. Ads somehow nearly always seems to rank higher (at the same bids) on content. It's worth a short, especially if your going to track it well.

I only have one site (out of a dozen) that does reasonably well on the Content Network, and 90% of THAT can be tracked to webmd. For that reason, I've taken most of my clients out of the Content Network (or vastly reduced the minimum bid)

You realize you can block it from showing webmd ads right?

No no no - I mean for that particular client, the ONLY Content Network ads that are doing him any good are the ones that run on WebMD.
