Adwords now appearing in banner across top

Google appear to have moved the No1 adword for a search to across the top of the page where usually you find the big advertisers.

Only applies to google.com and not co.uk at the moment.

I'm still seeing the paid ads, not adwords on the top of our searches. What keywords were you looking for?

Are they a different color, and right above the main results? Those are normal.

Lisa yes they are on those color bands. Up til now this is been advertising banners, a seperate deal from adwords.

Looking at the code the top is a banner ad and the second an adword.

This is bug IMHO. I have seen such screwed adword design few times in past, but I can't now recollect keywords I was searching for. The ads even covered top 3 regular results.

The paid ads and ad words are all labeled "sponsored links" and it's difficult to differentiate between them. Is Google listing the top ad word with the paid ads when there are not enough paid ads for a particular search term?

This may well be it. That said no paid banner ads and no adwords show at all. Only when there is a banner add do I get an adword "upgraded"

I can always tell the difference.

Premium Sponsorship ads have the words "Sponsored Link" inside the colored box. AdWords have the words "Sponsored Links" above the colored boxes.

Adwords boxes have borders. Premium Sponsorships don't.

Adwords have a PageRank bar. Premium Sponsorships don't.

The #1 Adword is being listed directly below the Premium Sponsorship listing at the top of the page in the same size box/banner. Both of these listings are in colored boxes without borders and with "Sponsored Listing" in the upper right hand corner of the box.
