Well.. I've been using adsense for a while, but i'm pretty new to adwords and I just found out that after you fully restore your account 3 times you get charges $5.00.. :-/ .. I was wondering how I could prevent this..

Also, I was wondering if you don't click the Restore Full Delivery button, but you edit your poor performing keywords, will it go back to normal?

That happened to me at first too, it's not very fun and scared me off AdWords for a while... Then I read up on it quite a bit and tried it again and never had the problem again.

In most cases, this happens because the keywords are too general. If you bid on the keyword widgets it will bring back all kinds of variations - widget stores, widget malls, widget shoes, widget cheese. Though it will reduce the number of impressions and clicks, the trick is to bid on more specific keywords. Like "widget tutorial online". Using quotation marks or [these brackets] will help as well.

It's sort of complicated at first but really worth reading Google's information about keyword matching.

All of this shouldn't only help bring your click rate up, it should also help you bring some better traffic which should lead to better conversions.

Good luck! And don't worry, it gets easier!

also, with this new system that they are putting in, it will bring an end to this, correct?

I have not experienced this in YEARS...I thought they put an end to it...

I would recommend bulking up on your negative keywords, that should lower your impressions, and eliminate showing your ads to searchers that are not looking for what you sell.

well, I get a lot of good hits with offtopic keywords, I believe with the new system they are adding it will solve my problem.. does anyone know when it will be put in?

Another question i have is, if the "slowing error is up" do i need to click Full Delivery Restore for it to go back or can i just delete the poor performing clicks or does it go away by itself? or what?

It's best to click "full delivery". It might go back on it's own, but I wouldn't count on it.

fuzzy1,

the new system might not slow your account. but still your problem will not be solved. it looks like you have low CTR. If that is so, most of your words might become inactive and your minimum bids might be very high. So I would say better to concentrate on improving your CTR through better targetting of keywords, more negtive keywords and improving your ads

most people do the mistake of putting hundreds of keywords in one ad group, you should only put about 10 - 20 keywords at the most for each ad group then you won't have such a low CTR, always use negati [cashmoneyl3.blogspot.com]ve keywords too, and you will see how much your CTR will improve.

good luck.

My problem is I don't have but 4 keywords/phrases and all are normal. I'm I assured that I will not get the dreaded 'slowed' message if my keywords are normal? Also, what do you mean by negative keywords?

One technique I used (after spending $15 for full delivery) is to initially bid high on your keywords.

Monitor the impressions and delete any keywords that go wild with impressions (write them down too).

After you have gotten rid of the keywords that go crazy you can usually adjust your bid downward.

Katdadi, if all of your keywords are 'normal' there is a very good chance that they will stay that way (especially if they have been running as normal for some time already) - however, what actually happens depends on how the keywords perform.

Negative keywords are in important means to help you prevent your ad from showing to users who are not really qualified customers. There's lots of information on this subject in the AdWords Help Center, and a good place to start reading would be here:

What are keyword matching options?
[adwords.google.com...]

How do I choose negative keywords?
[adwords.google.com...]

delete any keywords that go wild with impressions (write them down too).

Just a quick note about keeping a record of deleted keywords: even if you delete keywords, you can still choose to see them, by checking the check box that says "Include deleted items that were active in this date range", which appears under the date range tool, at the Ad Group level of your account.

Keep in mind, you'll only see the deleted terms if they received impressions during the date range. So a keyword that never received an impression and is deleted leaves no trail.

I rightem down anyway :)

I also use the keyword editing tool to delete 'deleted' keywords after a while... does that make sense? Makes it easier to add them back..

but I really don't know what I'm doing - I'm more like a monkey on the keyboard - eventually something works.
