Hi, I'm about to start my first Google campaign and I plan on advertising 3 ebooks about dating and women advice. Two questions, and please forgive me if the questions sound rather newbie-ish, I'm very new to adwords so just about to test the waters

What's a good number of keywords to come up with? (I know this should be as many as possible, but how many is this? how many phrases, keywords, and etc?)

What's a good budget to start with? I know I should test them first and see if they're worth going all out on, so what's a good testing budget? I'm just a college student with limited funds?

Thanks for your help!

as many keywords as possible. I've got over 10,000. For limited funds, there are two things you need to focus on (one is keyword related). First, you need to find those odd little keywords that have good traffic but no one else is advertising on. You can find lots of dirt cheap traffic if you find the right keywords. Thus, more keywords=better. Second thing is writing good ads so that you have a high click through rate. That allows you to get higher positioning without paying as much.

Your budget will depend on your niche. If you're selling auto insurance, $500 a day probably doesn't go far. If you're selling ebooks on how to cut your lawn, $50 a day is probably pretty good. Set it at whatever you're comfortable with.

Your bid amounts should give you a good indication as well. If you're having to bid $5 per click you're only going to get 10 clicks for $50 daily max - not enough to do anything. If you've got 10 cent traffic, then a max daily of $50 will give you lots of traffic to play with.

You should be able to make this profitable fast, if you do the work. After a couple of weeks with the right ads in place on the right keywords it's just a matter of cashflow as to how much you spend - the more you spend the more profitable you become.

As many as you can come up with.

Keep the good ones (obvious :-)). Dump the non-performing ones (just as obvious :-)). When you've taken stock on the account after a period of time that suits you, find more kw's and try those...

What's a good budget to start with?

You won't know that until you've got your keywords sorted. However, you can always look in your wallet.. there's your budget...
