# of ads per term?

When choosing keywords what is a good # of competitive ads to stay below? For instance, if "bluewidget" has 100 ads for that term and "lightbluewidgets" has 20 ads. What would be a good rule-of-thumb for the # of competitive ads would you stay below when choosing terms?

Point is I want the lowest CPC, for the most impressions.

I'm not quite sure what you mean for 'number of ads to stay below', but if your average position is >8, you are not being shown on the first results page, and your impressions will be few and far between.

Sorry for not making myself clear. Basically my question is if there are 20+ ads on adwords for any given keyword term, is it worth it to compete against all those other ads? In terms of ROI and CPC.

only one way to find out try it, see what your conversion is like, remember the money they make per transaction might be more or less than what you get per transaction there for dramaticly changing your ROI. .. start medium-low and go from there.
