Well, for those that don't get it, they were giving away free $20 coupons at the PubCon [webmasterworld.com] this time.

So, clearly I'm not gonna get rich but I'm too tired to work today and not tired enough to be away from the computer...

Anyone got any good suggestions or thoughts bearing in mind that I don't intend to spend a dime more? (free traffic guy)....

And BTW, were'nt they $100 last year?

I thought about grabbing a stack of those to pay for the whole trip but I resisted.

My plan is to use it for a new site to get 400 quick $0.05 hits to see what converts on the sites and what I can improve.

Write bad poetry and post it in the adword ad?

Insult your least favorite person in an adword ad with their name as the keyword?

Advertise for widgets and see if anyone is really looking for them?

Put up an overture ad under the keyword "adwords"?

Be generous and send traffic to your favoite charity?

Put a link to an ex-girl/boy friend's naked pic?

They wouldn't make much money but would be mildly entertaining. :)

according to OV, widget had 1761 searches last month. That's a whole lot of people looking for a marketing equvilant to the letter X.

BTW, Run for your computers, no one is advertising in adwords for the word widget.

well,now i finally get it! :)

--------
A widget is a metaphor for some product produced by any
(usually) fictional company to assist in an illustration of a story. For example. I could say that a company such as Motorola using the Six Sigma process can turn out 50,000 cell phones a month. Or, I could say, a company called 'ABC' can turn out 50,000 widgets a month using
the Design Life process model. Simply, a widget is a make believe thing used for story telling.
-------------
This is the most common use of "widget", but there is actually a second definition that's quite distinct from this one. In programming parlance, a "widget" is a GUI artifact. TCL uses this term explicitly; it's not jargon. But unless you do GUI programming, it's obscure.

Silly me. Here I was thinking widgets was used only because the cartoon moguls trademarked sprockets and cogs way back when www simply meant ya had a stuck key on yer typewriter.
