I played with Google and its source code a litte bit today and doing this I discovered that Adwords-Ads can have two different click urls/tracking urls:

1. /pagead/iclk?adurl=http://www.example.org&sa=l&ai=x&num=x
or
2. /url?sa=l&q=http://www.example.org&ai=x&num=x

(ai is a tracking-id or something, num is the position of the ad)

Does anybody know more about it or what it means?

I believe the first type of link is with
advertisers that are using Google's conversion
tracking, and the second type is advertisers
that are not using the converstion tracking
feature.

Sorry wayne,

but you're not right with your idea. I just checked an ad of mine 2 times, its conversion tracking is disabled, and once it had "/pagead/iclk" as url, the other time it was "/url".

Well, I thought maybe that was what it was,
because when I use the tracking conversion
option, my urls show as pagead/iclk?, but when
I turn the conversion tracking off they become
the url? type.

AdwordsAdvisor, could you perhaps ask someone at Google?

Sure, I'll see what I can do Sujan. This is probably a good time to mention, though, that I'll be away from the office from Friday through Monday.

So I'll be back to posting on Tuesday.
