Strange i have never see it

Do you mean google shows from which country this advertiser is?

Yes, i have targetted the advert for the UK.

It has the title, 2 description lines and then the website address as usual
but then it has teh word England underneath that!

I have messed around with the target but does not make a difference

Does it look like regional advertising? I can't see it from the Netherlands (using google.co.uk).

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, gmaretta!

I sort of have tired-brain-syndrome just now, but this is not something I recall for countries.

However, it's certainly normal for a region or city name to appear below ads targeted to that region or city, when they're being viewed by users identified as within that region or city. This is so that the users will know the ad is particularly relevant to them.

I'll dig into this a bit deeper, and post again tomorrow.

Seen it lots of times - I often target ads geographically, and I always see them with 'Location' under them when the location matches mine.
Basically, if you target your ad for an area, eg. the UK, and a person in England looks at them, it will display 'England' under the ad, so the viewer can be sure they are in England.
Looks stupid (and you can imagine I adore my ads looking stupid :( ) and I don't know why Google does it.

The location only comes up on my adverts when I specify an area smaller than the UK. If I have a UK campaign it never shows the area.

However, I have campaigns set for Scotland and it shows Scotland underneath as it should.

I imagine that the advert has been placed as all countries in the UK as opposed to the UK as a whole.

Having the place below the advert helps with my campaigns, it makes them stand out. Hence I like the targeting.

It may work fine for the Uk and the US at country level, but Google thinks that half of the Duch live in Amsterdam which is not the case. Only their ISP's are in Amsterdam.

Yes, IP-based geolocation can be poor.

We have the same issue in the UK, roll on a better system.

Google classifies England as a region rather than a country so it is simply the result of regional targeting.

Hit Prof - Looking forward to better targetting in the UK as well. I wonder how long before they start using the local search saved destination if they are not doing so already.
